The Manager of Stockroom and Materials Handling is responsible to manage, coordinate and control the operations of two service units in Physical Resources (PR); the stockroom and materials handling. Having complete and full control over the activities in the two departments, the incumbent must plan, direct and coordinate the operation and the staff and provide operational support and expertise to the stockroom clerks and materials handling staff, as well as Managers, Supervisors and trades staff in PR regarding purchasing of stock. As the department’s primary liaison with central purchasing services, the incumbent is responsible to gather, analyze and report information and financial solutions relating to the stock purchases and related processes for the Directorate. The incumbent will be responsible for timely and accurate reporting for parts inventory and to analyze unit costs and minimize costs with best value for the product. Further, the incumbent is responsible for enhancing the procurement and management of stock used by PR by ensuring best practices are achieved while meeting the Directorate’s and the University’s objectives.

Other responsibilities include liaising with the President’s Office for special events such as Convocation, Community Breakfast/President’s Welcome and any other ad hoc events hosted by the president’s office. This may require the incumbent to work unusual hours, providing not only the coordination of material handling support but also problem solving for any facility support issues that arise before and during the event.

Requirements of the position include:

- A diploma in purchasing/inventory management or related field
- A forklift license
- Two years’ demonstrated inventory management experience and demonstrated understanding and knowledge of various trades with a general knowledge of electronics;
- Proven knowledge of trades must be acquired from a formal professional setting, such as retail, industrial or construction.
- Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), analytical and mathematical ability with excellent data entry skills
- Detail-oriented self-starter, and a team player
- Highly organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills; superior interpersonal skills; strong customer service skills; problem solving skills; and the ability to work well under pressure
- Knowledge of the Physical Resources Division and its trades, and the University campus would be an asset.
- SCMA, CSPC or APICS certification preferred
