Nisku, Canada Norwood Foundry Full time

**Norwood Foundry Ltd is currently hiring a experienced Pattern Maker for a full-time, permanent position just south of Edmonton in Nisku, Alberta who will report to the Plant Manager.**

Under general supervision of the Plant Manager - plan, lay out and perform machining and bench; operations required to construct, alter, and repair wood & styrofoam patterns and core boxes for complex designs of small and medium sized castings or large-scale and more expensive castings; performs assignments requiring the highest skill and knowledge levels; and performs other related duties as assigned.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Selects the most appropriate materials for the particular job;
- Organizes and lays out pattern components;
- Calculates shrink allowances to maintain dimensional accuracy of castings produced;
- Gauges proper allowances to facilitate the drawing of patterns from molds;
- Determines parting and core locations;
- Changes patterns as required for new production jobs;
- Sets up, adjusts and skillfully operates a variety of woodworking machines such as saws, planers, jointers, and shapers to machine pattern components;
- Performs bench work using appropriate bench, hand and power tools to assemble, glue and finish patterns;
- Determines and incorporates required inserts and other methods of strengthening patterns;
- Glues in fillets and coat patterns with shellac or other appropriate finishing agents;
- Lays out patterns and details and work from drawings, sketches, samples and specifications;
- Use scale, shrink rule, square, calipers, dividers, protractor, trammels, templates, gauges, and related measurements tools; check patterns for conformance to dimensions, draft and shrink allowances, contours and profiles, strength and finishing requirements;
- Based upon specialized knowledge, make other recommendations as to the construction of patterns strengthening and reinforcement of materials and production molding methods;
- Ensure adherence to workmanship quality standards and dimensional and contour accuracy of assigned work;
- Performs other related duties, as assigned;
*Experience:
*

Past experience is required involving pattern making practices and technology with wood and styrofoam, shop mathematics, machining methods, molding procedures and general foundry practices.

**Knowledge/Skills/Abilities**:

- Considerable knowledge of woodworking equipment, technology, principles and practices;
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and sketches;
- Ability to understand and follow work instructions;
- Able to work to close tolerances and dimensions as shown on blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and prototype working drawings;
- Ability to skillfully operate a variety of types and sizes of woodworking machines such as table saws, planers, jointers, disc sanders, lathes, and shapers;
- Ability to accurately use measuring equipment for a variety of first run jobs;
- Considerable knowledge of safety practices and company requirements;
- Ability to accurately calculate extra material for machining purposes;
- Ability to analyze; ability to lay out and organize materials;
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and others;
- Ability to safely operate forklift;
**Physical Requirements**:

- Ability to stand for extended periods of time;
- Must be able to reach, bend, stoop and lift materials and objects weighing 50 pounds or more;
- Ability to move heavier objects using mechanical devices or with the assistance of others;
- Ability to use Proper Protective Equipment (PPE) as required; and
- Ability to walk/move about on uneven and/or sand-covered surfaces;
