**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**JOB TITLE**: Planner I

**PRIMARY FUNCTION**:
**SUPERVISION RECEIVED**:
Manager of Development Planning or designate

**DIRECTION EXERCISED**:
Gives working instructions to support staff, as necessary.

**WORKING PROCEDURES**:
Attends Committee of Adjustment hearings and Site Plan Committee meetings as required;

Prepares legal documents to implement planning decisions, including deeming by-laws, part lot control by-laws, restrictive covenant agreements and other planning related documents as required.

Prepares and gives evidence at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings as an expert witness.

Provides back-up service for duties of Zoning Examiner in absence of Zoning Examiner.

Provides guidance to clerical and technical staff in the preparation of materials for circulation, staff reports and presentations.

**SKILL/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS**:
Minimum of one-year relevant professional planning experience in a public sector or private consulting environment.

Thorough knowledge of Ontario Planning Act regulations and procedures, the Provincial Policy Statement and other related legislation and guidelines.

Excellent organizational, analytical, investigative, problem-solving, report writing, communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.

Demonstrated ability to work courteously and effectively with all levels of staff, external government agencies/authorities, the development community, rate payer groups and the general public, with the ability to respect confidentiality.

Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Valid Class 'G’ Driver’s License in good standing and reliable vehicle.

Availability to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary/requested for attendance at Council/Committee meetings, public forums, etc.
