**Tasks**:

- Respond to fire alarms and other calls for assistance
- Control and extinguish fires using manual and power equipment
- Administer first-aid and other assistance
- Maintain firefighting equipment
- Assist police, the public and emergency organizations during major disasters
- Provide paramedical aid to accident victims or ill persons
- Provide fire prevention education programs
- Co-ordinate the work of other firefighters
- Supervise other firefighters
- Provide consultative services to government, business and other organizations
- Lead discussion groups and seminars
- Ensure safety of rescuers and victims at accident scenes
- Deliver lectures and presentations
- Prepare reports
- Supervise teaching assistants
