**Reports to: Director of Operations**
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Return to Work (RTW)
- Lead the implementation of the company RTW program across Canada
- Assist in the review and maintenance of the company RTW program and related documentation and tools, including consultation with workers and their representatives
- Work closely with SHEQ team to ensure adequate completion of the initial injury/illness notification information
- Lead the coordination of injured/ill workers recovery at work across Canada
- Perform the day-to-day administration, monitoring and reporting of worker’s compensation claims and return to work outcomes and initiate stakeholder meetings as required
- Work closely with the SHEQ team, Supervisors and Managers to develop, monitor and review RTW plans, including identifying suitable work opportunities
- Act as the central point of communication with all key parties (including external) in relation to RTW Plan preparation, monitoring and reviewing
- Ensure adequate records for all injury management cases are held and maintained at all times, including keeping confidential case notes and records in line with relevant laws and guidelines
- Act as the primary contact for external stakeholders, such as the worker compensation boards, treatment providers, union, and workplace rehabilitation provider
- Respond to RTW queries in a timely manner, particularly employee queries
Injury Management
- Support the redeployment of workers (internally or externally) into suitable work when they cannot return to their pre-injury duties
- Work closely with the SHEQ team to record and maintain injury and recover at work statistics
- Promote the health benefits of good work, in the rehabilitation context, to the workforce
- Provide advice, support, and guidance to managers and the HR & SHEQ teams with all work and/or non-work related RTW matters, ensuring risk management in order to prevent a transferrable injury or further injury to the employee in the workplace
- Provide on-the-job coaching and education to Managers on the RTW program, process, and legislation
- Stay abreast of Provincial Injury Management laws and keep the HR and SHEQ teams informed of any key changes, ensure DSI compliance with provincial regulations
- Organize and attend claims review meetings with worker compensation boards, including other relevant stakeholders such as HR, SHEQ team members, operations, and/or unions
- Work closely with Payroll to ensure wage reimbursements and claims are processed correctly and in a timely manner
- Ensure company disputes to injury/illness claims are lodged with the relevant insurer immediately and followed-up to ensure investigation
- Provide proactive injury management support to managers and the business to minimize the occurrence of incidents and costs associated with workers compensation claims
- Manage administration duties for injury related claims including completing Form 8
- Play an active role in working with the Operations and Safety teams regarding injury/illness prevention strategy projects and initiatives from consultation, development to implementation and monitoring
**REQUIRED COMPETENCIES**:
- Working knowledge of worker compensation legislation and the roles / responsibilities of stakeholders in the system
- Highly effective communication skills, able to communicate clearly, actively listen to others and compile comprehensive written notes and correspondence
- Ability to effectively consult with and influence stakeholders
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with ability to gain consensus and commitment from others and resolve issues and conflicts
- Organized and skilled in time management
- Solid problem-solving skills, consider/analyze/develop solutions to barriers to recovery at work
- An understanding of Canadian employment laws
- High degree of confidentiality and understanding of privacy laws
- Knowledge of health and wellness principles
- Experience working in a national position
- Proven work experience in Occupational Health
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience
**EDUCATION**:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field
- Preference will be given to Education in a profession recognized as a health professional in the “Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991”
