**Location**:189 Marsh Street, New Glasgow, NS

**Start Date**:As soon as possible

**Annual Salary**:$50,000-54,000 Annually

**Schedule**:Days, Evenings, Occasional Overnights, Weekends, Weekdays, etc.

**The role of the Shelter Supervisor will include but is not limited to**:

- Oversee and support the shelter support workers in dealing with the daily activities and issues related to clients and shelter operations
- Deal with complaints and issues that arise from within the organization and from community
- Advocate for the society, perform/develop presentations, and participate community meetings
- Create schedules for shelter support staff
- Monitor and ensure staff procedures and safety practices are followed
- Provide back-up support for front-line shelter support staff and in other areas as needed
- Lead with positive influence towards others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the society
- Perform and document disciplinary meetings and warnings with the assistance of the Executive Director
- Maintain positive and effective relationships with all partners
- Daily - Review all incident reports and confirm appropriate action is taken
- Assists with analyzing operational data to evaluate shelter effectiveness
- When necessary, participates in developing shelter revisions
- Provide operational reports, statistical, and evaluative information

**Responsibilities**:

- Remain calm under pressure; demonstrates maturity, and maintains professionalism at all times
- Highly self-motivated, work independently and as a team
- Exceptional ability to problem-solve, make appropriate decisions quickly and independently
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build appropriate and healthy rapport with vulnerable population, staff, and community members
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal skills
- Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word/PowerPoint
- Working knowledge of Housing First approaches, the social determinants of health, and services available within the community
- Must be adaptable and able to work effectively under pressure, strong multi-tasking skills
- Other duties and requirements may be asked of the successful applicant

**Qualifications**:

- Related post secondary education preferred
- Experience with adults facing homelessness, mental illness, and substance abuse is preferred
- Supervisory/leadership experience preferred
- A combination of education and experience will be considered for this position
- A criminal record check and vulnerable sector check is required
- Must be over the age of 19
