Adherent Vero cells are the most widely accepted cells by regulatory authorities for the manufacturing of human viral vaccines including rabies, polio, and SARS-CoV-2. However, the costs of biomanufacturing processes using adherent cells are high due to intensive labor and complex scale-up. In this project we aim to 1) characterize the genomic landscape of NRC’s Vero cells previously adapted for growth in suspension and 2) link genetic information to the Vero cells’ performance and engineer phenotypes by design to improve the robustness and productivity of Vero cells using well-established methods in cell culture, bioprocess development, genomics, bioinformatics and cell engineering.

**Education**:
PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology Bioengineering, Biochemistry or related discipline.

**Experience**:
Demonstrable research excellence in either of the above discipline.

Experience in biomanufacturing will be considered an asset.

**Who is eligible?**:

- Fellowships will be for two years contingent on satisfactory progress achieved during the first year.
- Fellows will work in a lab under the direct supervision of an NRC researcher.

**Compensation**:
The intent of this hiring action is to staff through the Postdoctoral Fellowships Program at the AsRO level, which is an early-career level position with a salary range of $74,230 to $103,093.
