**Position Summary**:
Ne’nagw’nakwla is seeking a Lead Cultural Knowledge Keeper of the Kwakwaka’wakw tradition to join our team to who will both engage with residential school survivors, including intergenerational survivors, and will offer support to local knowledge keepers where we visit. The goals of the Ne'ngwa'nkwala Project are:
- _To locate missing former students of St. Michaels Residential School_
- _To investigate potential burial, grave and other sites of human remains connected to the former St. Michael’s Indian Residential School; and,_
- _Strive to ensure Wellness and Cultural Support to the former Students, Intergenerational, Multi-generational Residents, and Employees of St. Michael’s Indian Residential School who we interview leading up to, during, and following the investigation._
- _Create healing and cultural supports for inter-generational residential school survivors. _
**Major Duties & Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Ne’nagw’nakwla Project Manager the Cultural Knowledge Keeper will support the development and delivery of traditional cultural supports through engagement with survivors and their families.
Based in their traditional knowledge and experience, the lead Cultural Knowledge Keeper will provide Indigenous ceremony, teachings and other healing modalities to help individuals and families to achieve greater balance in their emotional, spiritual, mental and physical health/wellness.
This Lead Cultural & Knowledge Keeper is offered on a contract basis. The contract requires a minimum of 4 hrs per week and a maximum of 20 hour per week.
**Job Qualifications**:
- Lifelong learning and mentorship under a reputable teacher(s).
- Some post-secondary education is an asset.
- Must have minimum five years’ experience working in a First Nation organization.
- Must have extensive working knowledge and experience with traditional practices.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact professionally with colleagues and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
- Flexibility and adaptability to handle a variety of tasks and projects.
**Skills & Abilities**:
- Ability to conduct traditional ceremonies for survivors, families and communities.
- Experienced with the use of traditional medicines and harvesting protocols.
- Leads a healthy lifestyle and is a positive role model in the community.
- Time management and organizational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritize workload, ensure timelines are met and respond to demands of a dynamic environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Maintain a strong sense of professional judgement, tact, ethics, sensitivity, integrity and confidentiality.
- Work cooperatively and productively with others to achieve common goals; demonstrate respect, cooperation and collaboration.
- Strong commitment to cultural safety and ability to use authority in a respectful manner.
- Ability to work collaboratively within the organization and external services and organizations.
**Other Job Requirements**:
- Must provide a clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen
- Must have a valid driver’s License, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel.
- The ability to work overtime, evenings and weekends as required.
