**About Us**:
The Correctional Services division of the Department of Justice is responsible for the administration and operation of community and custody-based programs and services for adult offenders and young persons.

Within the Correctional Services core business area there are two programs: community corrections as well as correctional facilities. Each of these program areas is broken down into closely related activities that have a specific impact on the program's target group.

**About Our Opportunity**:
As canteen clerk, you are responsible for assisting in the maintenance and control of the central repository of facility files and related records in accordance with the STAR/STOR system. You are also responsible for the provision of canteen services to the inmate population.

**Primary Accountabilities**:

- Transfer records (from active to inactive) to Records centre in accordance with approved retention schedule and appropriate divisional policies.
- Perform searches for materials, upon request.
- Perform any other functions connected with the Central Registry, as required
- Other administrative duties.
- Verify inmate information with offender account information.
- Generate accounting reports, as necessary.
- Maintain spreadsheets.
- Scan and upload documents.
- Create new files; collect, pre-sort, and file all departmental records.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
To be considered for this opportunity, you hold three years of related administrative/clerical experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

You have proficient keyboarding skills and a sound knowledge of general office procedures and computer programs, including MS Office, MS Word, Excel and Outlook. You have some experience with file and/or records management.

You are self-motivated, can work with mínimal supervision and can maintain the highest level of confidentiality. You exercise tact and diplomacy and have good organizational and communication skills.

Knowledge of a records management system would be an asset.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

This competition has been opened to fill 1 casual position based in Dartmouth.

This position is required to lift up-to 50lbs.

Casual employees fill gaps in the schedule and replace full time employees when operational requirements demand as determined by the Employer. While there is no shift work associated with this position, there is potential for travel, overtime and disruptions to personal and family life due to position responsibilities, workload, and other unplanned activities (typically the hours are between 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, this may vary depending on operational needs).

**Salary Range**:_ _$20.72 - $22.55 Hourly
