Marianne’s Place shelter requires a **Part Time & Full Time Child Support Counsellors**

Part time schedule is weekends and Full-time schedule is weekdays.

Classification 111b Level 1-4

Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis (G-W WIC) is a diverse, inclusive, feminist community-based organization providing safety, advocacy, prevention, education, and support for women and gender-diverse people impacted by violence.

Requisite Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:

Responsibilities include:

- Support children in their experiences of violence through individual and group sessions.
- Support women in the impact of violence on their children, parenting and navigating the legal, childcare, educational and child welfare systems.
- Act as child advocate and resource person on issues of sexual abuse and domestic violence.
- Support women and their children in connecting to community resources.
- Provide programming, advocacy and accompaniment support.
- Perform administrative, security and maintenance; specific to children and youth program.
- Provide crisis intervention and crisis counselling services to callers and residents.
- Facilitate conflict resolution between residents.

▪Demonstrated knowledge of child development, effects of exposure to violence on children and parenting strategies.

▪Strong knowledge of child custody and family court processes.

▪Demonstrated experience with child and youth program planning, development, delivery and evaluation.

▪Proven ability in crisis intervention, trauma informed support, resiliency strategies and advocating for children, youth and women.

▪Proven ability to work from an anti-oppressive, feminist counselling framework.

▪Specialized training in sexual and domestic violence counselling, including childhood sexual abuse issues.

▪Specialized knowledge of trauma, mental health and substance use issues.

▪Post-secondary diploma/degree in child and youth studies or equivalent.

▪Minimum 2-3 years previous experience working with and advocating for children and youth.

▪Experience working in a shelter setting.

▪Awareness of rural culture and additional barriers abused women and their children face in a rural environment

▪Solid administration and organizational skills with strong computer competency.

▪Working knowledge of current community resources.

▪Current Standard First Aid, CPR and Vulnerable sector CPIC.

▪Second language highly preferred.
