Research Technician in Cell Biology and Molecular

The Vocadlo research group is seeking a Research Technician to join our team located in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and the Department of Chemistry at Simon Fraser University.
Our interdisciplinary team comprises both biologists and chemists that focus on addressing fundamental questions related to the roles of carbohydrate processing enzymes in human health and disease. We use a range of methods from biochemistry to cell biology and leverage expertise in chemical biology to create and exploit new research tools.
The successful applicant(s) will work as part of this well-funded, supportive, and collegial team with a principal role being to assist in research efforts into the roles of enzymes genetically or pharmacologically linked to diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). Prospective projects benefit from a great depth of preliminary research and involve the use of human patient iPSC-derived cell models of monogenic and polygenic CNS diseases. The applicant(s) will be trained and guided by experts in cell biology and have access to cutting edge facilities including the fully automated Centre for High-Throughput Chemical Biology (HTCB), which supports automated cell culture and quantitative cell biology.
Applicant(s) will collaborate with a team of researchers to conduct experiments. Your hands-on experience with techniques in molecular biology and biochemistry or cell biology and stem cells will be pivotal to our success. Training to complement existing skills will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory experiments and assays related to molecular biology.
- Execute western blot, nuclear acid isolation, qPCR, gene cloning, protein expression and purification, cell-based assay, microscope imaging, and other relevant techniques with precision.
- Cultivate and maintain various cell lines following meticulous cell culture practices.
- Purify DNA and RNA samples to a high level to enable downstream analysis.
- Perform CRISPR-Cas9, confocal microscopy, high-content imaging, and iPSC culture and differentiation (After receiving training).
- Contribute to the optimization of experimental protocols and methodologies.
- Collaborate with fellow researchers to ensure seamless project execution.
- Basic experimental design, procuring and producing specialized reagent, maintaining equipment, and an ability to analyze experimental results,
- Participate in publications by generating figures and input.
The successful applicant(s) will be motivated and have a demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team. The successful applicant must have at least a B.Sc. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field. Familiarity with a range of methods in Molecular Cell Biology is important and training will be available to expand professional skills and abilities.
**Salary**: $38,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
