**Job Summary**:The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking nutritional meal programs for the building residents. Develops menu plans, prepares meals, and oversees the operation of the eating and cooking facilities. He/She/They follows all proper food storage, preparation, and sanitation procedures, and maintains proper log documentation of the kitchen.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Welcomes all clients with kindness and without judgement.
- Reviews the meal preparation needs of the organization.
- Develops a breakfast, and dinner menu plan in accordance with accepted nutritional guidelines such as Canada’s Food Guide for Healthy Eating and the individual dietary needs of the clients.
- Prepares and serves nutritious meals, including those for special dietary needs and special occasions, in accordance with food regulations and established policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Follows the menu and recipes planned for the week. Plans to ensure that food items that need to be cooked are ready at the time of preparation.
- Follows portion control standards and addresses dietary restrictions as required.
- Sets up the food preparation line and the food serving line using the proper tools, equipment, and food placement.
- Cleans, sanitizes, and maintains cleanliness of work areas and all kitchen equipment. Performs daily dishwashing, sweeping, mopping and deep cleaning duties in the kitchen as needed. Follows proper opening, closing, and cleaning procedures in the kitchen, including adherence to WHMIS guidelines.
- Prevents the waste of ingredients through proper storage in designated areas, which includes labelling, dating and rotating food items following FIFO (first in, first out) procedures. Monitors the food temperature and food storage areas.
- Purchases equipment to meet those needs within approved budget limits. Maintains an inventory of all related equipment.
- Purchases and orders food items necessary for the preparation of meals. Ensures that purchases are within approved budget limits. Maintains an inventory of food and other related items. Stores food items.
- Maintains all proper documentation of kitchen areas, including daily cooler and dishwasher temperature logs.
- Demonstrate proficiency in written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Interact with residents in a caring and supportive manner.
- Remains calm when faced with challenging or disruptive conduct.
- Maintains healthy personal and professional boundaries.
- Works as a member of a team and contributes to the programs culture.
- Remains on site at all times, except where directed to do otherwise by management, a law enforcement officer, or equivalent; or in the case of a fire, danger, or natural disaster that requires evacuation.
- Attends work as scheduled.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**Qualifications, Education, Training, & Experience**:

- Grade 10, plus graduation from a program in institutional or residential quantity cooking.
- One (1) year recent related experience.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Certificates in First Aid and Food Safe.
- Naloxone Training.
- Criminal Record Clearance for the Vulnerable Sector prior to commencement of employment.
- Proof of COVID-19 immunization is a requirement.

**Skills/Abilities**:

- Basic computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
- Ability to cook for a large group.
- Ability to adjust recipes.
- Non-judgmental, respectful, positive, supportive, and empowering attitude.
- Ability to take initiative and work with mínimal amount of supervision, set priorities, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and in a changing work environment.

- Must be well groomed and demonstrate a high degree of personal hygiene.

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: $25.55-$29.26 per hour

Expected hours: 16 - 20 per week
