**On-going Recruitment for Crossing Guards (various locations)**:
The Crossing Guard is responsible for the safe crossing of pedestrians of all ages at designated crossing locations throughout the Town of Ajax. This role will also provide customer service to all using the crossing and to be aware at all times, the activity at the crossing to ensure the safety of pedestrians.

**Job Duties Include**:

- Direct and supervise the movement of persons across the roadway
- Monitor vehicle and pedestrian traffic management at the crossing
- Educate pedestrians on safe crossing practices
- Respond to emergency issues involving vehicles and pedestrian traffic at a crossing
- Report safety issues to supervisor as required
- Provide customer service to the pedestrians and the public
- Champion of safety in the community on behalf of the Town of Ajax

**Skill/Ability**:

- Able to standing at a crossing for up to five hours per day in all types of weather
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions including extremes of heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, sleet, and wind and be capable of working under all types of road conditions, exposure to traffic noise and exhaust from vehicles
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public
- Able to remain calm and use good judgment in emergency situations
- Able to work independently without supervision
- Must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening Check before commencing work

**What we offer to staff**:

- Rate of Pay: $19.71 - $21.42 per hour
- Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works approximately 12 hours per week and depends on crossing location. School Crossing Guards work during the school year (September - June, excludes holidays and PA days) and must be available to work shifts between the hours of 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday, exact times are based on crossing guard location, but range from 2 to 4.5 hours per day. School Crossing Guards are required to be at their assigned crossing site in the morning, during lunchtime and after school.
