Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, and in accordance with Ballenas mission, strategic direction, principles, and policies, the Painter is primarily responsible for professionally preparing and painting surfaces as directed at Ballenas operated properties to the required standard, and other related duties.

**Specific Duties and Responsibilities Based on Key Competencies**:
**Problem Solving/Judgement**
- Effectively plan and organize work and resources; perform required on-site works, prepare walls and other surfaces for painting, including removing old paint, surface coverings, filling cracks and holes with appropriate material, select and mix paint to right colour and texture; paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools ensuring non-paint surfaces are protected
- Work with Operations Coordinator to source and purchase required equipment and supplies within approved limits; manage supplies; maintain orderly and organized inventory
- Recognize and appropriately respond to emergency situations in accordance with Ballenas policies and procedures

**Commitment to Safe Work Practices**
- Follow all WorkSafeBC regulations, Ballenas safety procedures, and equipment and tool operating instructions; utilize task-appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and clothing (e.g. eye protection, ear protection, particle masks, gloves)
- Ensure all tools and equipment are in safe working order and report all required equipment repairs or replacements to Manager
- Complete and submit any incident, injury and accident reports to the Manager

**Teamwork and Client Service**
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with all staff, tenants, and leadership teams; attend regular team meetings
- Work with Maintenance and Housing Operations teams to coordinate and schedule painting
- Respect tenant rights including privacy and confidentiality

**Personal Effectiveness**
- Initiate and carry out a diverse range of duties with mínimal supervision; work efficiently to manage tasks, time and resources; accurately track and report time worked at each location
- Commitment to well-being of self and others through adherence to Ballenas and other regulatory policies and practices; immediately report non-compliant conditions to the Manager
- Demonstrate dedication to a high professional standard of personal conduct, accountability, and competence; maintain composure in stressful situations

**QUALIFICATIONS**

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Red Seal Certified Painter/Decorator preferred; education and training as painter/ decorator, plus a minimum of 5 year’s experience as painter at commercial complexes; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience
- Demonstrated hands-on experience operating related tools, machinery and equipment
- Experience working with vulnerable populations preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Highly developed interpersonal communication, problem solving, organizational and conflict resolution abilities
- Sound knowledge of safe work practices
- Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques
- Superior organizational and time management skills; attention to detail
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite an asset

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid Driver’s Licence and Clean Driver’s Abstract; access to reliable vehicle
- Valid Occupational First Aid (OFA) Certificate an asset
- May be required to work weekends on rare occasions
- Fast-paced environment with heavy physical demands

**Salary**: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
