The **Ontario Securities Commission (OSC)** is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, adjudication and enforcement work. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

**What We Do**

The **Market Regulation (MR) Branch** is responsible for the oversight of market infrastructure entities (including marketplaces, self-regulatory organizations (SROs), and clearing agencies) as well as policy development relating to market structure and clearing and settlement.

**The Opportunity**

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Analyze proposals from marketplaces, including analysis of the impact on access, competition, market structure and efficiency of the market and make recommendations regarding approval
- Assess compliance of marketplaces with regulatory requirements and make recommendations where appropriate
- Identify, monitor and report on developments in markets both in Canada and globally and share information
- Lead or contribute to policy projects focused on market structure issues
- Analyze the market environment and make recommendations for change and/or improvements to policies
- Examine the regulatory structure and practices in other jurisdictions to identify best practices
- Provide guidance and advice to all areas of the OSC on issues regarding trading and marketplace operations
- Coordinate with other regulators on market structure initiatives, projects and/or committees

**Skill Requirements**:

- Extensive understanding of trading processes
- Understanding of regulated entities/issues and the impact of market structure changes
- Good understanding of the operation of crypto trading platforms and related regulatory requirements is an asset
- Ability to analyze and clearly communicate issues, both orally and in writing, to OSC staff and provide leadership, recommendations and advice/solutions
- Ability to work independently within a team environment
- Ability to develop strong business relationships
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines
- 7 years of relevant experience, including trading, compliance or regulatory experience
- At minimum, an undergraduate degree
- Completion of Canadian Securities Course and/or professional exams in securities are an asset
