Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology. Prepares materials and equipment. Compiles data. Demonstrates techniques. Maintains equipment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology in fields such as chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, histology, toxicology, microbiology, immunology and molecular biology.

Prepares and sets up materials and equipment. Performs a variety of assays, analyses and tests such as tissue culture, radiochemical assays, electrophoresis, chromatography and histological procedures. Participates in small animal handling and minor surgery.

Records results, performs calculations and compiles data. Maintains records and files.

Demonstrates the operation of apparatus or techniques.

s Maintains equipment and performs minor repairs. Arranges for servicing.

Ensures the cleanliness and safety of the work area.

Maintains inventory. Purchases equipment and materials.

Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge

Uses a variety of equipment such as balances, pH meters, pipettors, laminar flow hoods, incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, chromatography apparatus, electrophoresis apparatus, electrophysiological recording apparatus, cryostats, microtomes, computers and audio-visual equipment.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
- A degree in biological sciences or related area is required- Previous experience working in a biological sciences laboratory is highly desirable- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work- Knowledge of and ability to integrate best safety practices in the use of laboratory and equipment- Ability to work independently as well as interact effectively with staff, students, and colleagues to provide technical expertise- Ability to use Microsoft Office program.- Knowledge of French and English.
