**Focus on Youth (FOY) Summer Coordinator***

**Summary**:
In the interest of extending supports and services to secondary students in receiving summer employment, a Focus on Youth (FOY) Summer Coordinator position will work directly with DDSB Camp Leads and community agencies employing these students.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- To work with Camp Leads and community agencies across Durham to facilitate effective relationships and assist with building networks of support for potentially in risk students.
- Plan and facilitate training of a group of secondary school students on interview skills and workplace etiquette
- Assist in facilitating and organizing paperwork required for the students employment
- Build capacity through community connections, assisting with access to community-based resources and programs
- Foster and build positive relationships between schools and agencies/workplaces.
- Seek out and build relationships as well as facilitate connections between community groups/programs that could benefit students
- Do weekly workplace visits and complete evaluations of student work, collecting timesheets on a weekly basis
- Provide direct support to youth employees, including coordination, training, problem-solving, and coaching/mentoring
- Promote and facilitate connections with community agencies
- Provide direct support to students in need at the elementary feeder schools and work with the school teams to develop a plan of support for the youth and their family

**Qualifications**:

- Ontario College of Teachers Qualifications or Master of Social Work or equivalent experience working with youth in the community social services sector
- Demonstrated knowledge of Durham area community-based networks and social service agencies, including community resources, work placements
- Ability to connect with youth to build positive relationship
- Ability to travel between involved camps and workplace
- Able to flexibly and creatively manage their own work schedule
- Proven ability to build positive relationships with students from historically/current disadvantaged communities and form plans that will support them.
- Sound knowledge of community resources available for youth
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with community partners, students and internal stakeholders

**Rate of Pay**:$35.96 per hour

**Hours of Work**:
Pre Summer: 10 hours weekly

During Summer: Summer 25-30 hours weekly.
