Tropical Greenhouse Technician

The applicant will be responsible for working in cooperation with our horticulture and event production professionals, providing tropical plant maintenance services for the a variety of business and residential clients, plus the interior facilities of our 10,000 sq.ft. tropical conservatory and exclusive wedding venue located in rural west Ottawa near the village of Carp. This position is well suited for someone with a background in interiorscaping who enjoys working in a positive team environment, yet works well independently, and takes pride in their work.
- **Responsibilities**_
- Proper watering, pruning and insect & disease control of all plant material in display gardens, living walls, and tropical & aquatic retail plant stock.
- Receiving, pricing, merchandising, and selling tropical & aquatic plants, interiorscape hard goods, and water gardening installation & maintenance products.
- Responding to client questions about tropical & aquatic plants and making suitable plant & product recommendations for clients’ homes & businesses.
- Maintaining showroom display pond, pondless waterfall & fountainscape.
- Maintaining a clean, organized retail & warehouse workspace, with some facility & retail display cleaning & care.
- Creating invoices, accepting & recording payments using POS terminal.
- Maintaining price & inventory lists, product information, inventories.
- Assisting with interiorscape installations & maintenance services.
- Work at external promotional sites (ie: Carp Farmer’s Market.
- **Qualifications**_
- Must provide own reliable transportation to and from our facility.
- Excellent health & physical fitness.
- Applicant must currently reside in the greater Ottawa area as a landed immigrant or a Canadian citizen.
- **Education & Experience**_
- High school graduate.
- Graduate in Horticultural Industries and/or Greenhouse Industries an asset.
- A minimum of 2 years’ professional experience in tropical plant care an asset.
- **Skills & Character**_
- Experience with Shopify POS & Quickbooks an asset.
- An unwavering passion for tropical plants, and continual learning in the field.
- Excellent communication skills & customer service experience a must.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and self-manage workload.
- Details-oriented.
- Must enjoy interacting with the public and be committed to delighting clients.
- Pleasant telephone mannerism and ability to multitask are essential.
- Excellent verbal & written communication in English a must.
- French language, an asset.
- Must be able to demonstrate initiative and a strong work ethic.
- Physically able to bend, lift, and be on feet for extended periods of time.
- Must provide own transportation to and from our facility.

**Salary**: $19.00-$22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 - 35 per week
