Medacom Atlantic, a subsidiary of Medavie Health Services (MHS), operates as Prince Edward Island’s Primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP); answering all 911 calls for the province. Medacom Atlantic is looking for a Patient Flow Coordinator who is committed to the delivery of innovative health care and public safety communications solutions.

We are currently searching for a highly motivated and qualified Patient Flow Coordinator who communicates effectively and provides pertinent information to various staff, facilities, and agencies in relation to patient transfer services. This person must possess the innate ability to perform several tasks at one time. The Patient Flow Coordinator reports directly to the Operations Manager of Medacom Atlantic.

The Patient Flow Coordinator will take direction from and act in conjunction with all levels of Operations leadership. In a capacity covering a broad range of duties and responsibilities, the Patient Flow Coordinator will contribute to the overall operational status of the Communication Centre while meeting or exceeding customer expectations during assigned shifts. The Patient Flow Coordinator assists with the effective, indirect delivery of patient care by following established non-emergency call taking procedures and protocols.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

- Managing transfer performance and working with all other operational leadership to ensure optimal patient flow.
- Providing high quality customer service to facilities and others who are requesting a transfer.
- Maintaining high standards for health, safety, welfare, professionalism and ethical behavior.
- Adhering to all policies and procedures of agencies, institutional and regulatory bodies which are approved and/or adopted by the Centre.
- Providing daily reports that include but not limited to:

- Daily transfer volume
- Number of delayed transfers
- Number of complaints received
- Number of multi-patient transfers coordinated
- Number of STAT transfers
- Ensuring that prescheduled transfer volumes are reviewed the previous day and are co-coordinated in a way that satisfies the needs of patients, operations, physical resources as well as contractual obligations.
- Working with the operations team in establishing contacts, attending meetings and handling complaints in regard to transfer performance or other hospital issues that involve the Centre.
- Maintaining a positive attitude, is self-motivated and attains a high standard of performance.
- Supports, interprets and complies with the philosophies, policies and procedures of the Centre.
- Demonstrates basic technical efficiency and knowledge of all Centre equipment.
- Receives and processes requests for non-urgent transport, using proper telecommunications techniques.
- Advocates and practices excellent customer service.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Posses a post secondary education in a health-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s degree in Paramedicine, Nursing or other Health profession will be considered as an asset.
- Have a minimum three years’ experience working in a high paced setting which may include but not limited to paramedicine, emergency communications, acute care setting, etc.
- Managerial/supervisory experience and formal business training is an asset.
- Demonstrates excellent organizational and time management skills to adequately prioritize workload.
- Have the ability to multi-task, work well under pressure, often under strict time deadlines.
- Demonstrate self-direction, good judgment and decision-making skills to prioritize incoming work.
- Demonstrate ability to work well with others towards a common goal.
- Demonstrates effective listening skills and the ability to follow instructions.
- Have experience in a call centre environment or a clinical/medical/hospital environment is an asset.
- Posses experience within a high-performance Communications Centre.
- Posses a Standard First Aid/ CPR certificate
