**Position Purpose**

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Climate Initiatives Advisor is responsible for providing guidance on climate and environmental projects for the municipality. The position will advise on the development and implementation of the Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP), specifically on climate change-related risks and opportunities for the Town. This position will work closely with the Climate Initiatives Lead and various external and internal stakeholders to develop and implement effective climate initiatives, programs, and policies.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Master’s degree related to Climate Data Analysis, Environmental Management or other relevant discipline from an accredited University;
- Ten (10) years of demonstrated experience related to climate data modelling and risk assessments;
- Experienced developing climate risk models, strategic planning documents, and writing detailed proposals, plans, and reports;
- Demonstrated experience in leading and collaborating with cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams, both internal and external to the organization
- Strong knowledge of climate science, climate projections, and climate risk modelling

**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Climate Initiatives Advisor is responsible for providing guidance on climate and environmental projects for the municipality. The position will advise on the development and implementation of the Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP), specifically on climate change-related risks and opportunities for the Town. This position will work closely with the Climate Initiatives Lead and various external and internal stakeholders to develop and implement effective climate initiatives, programs, and policies.

**Responsibilities**

**Climate Change Action Plan Development**:

- Advise on the Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) development process, specifically providing research, data analysis, and guidance for climate risks and vulnerabilities, leading and supporting stakeholder engagement activities, prioritization of opportunities and actions, and the development of the implementation plan
- Leads the research and data gathering for climate risk and opportunity identification; including performing environmental scans, conducting data analysis, preparing and delivering presentations and reports
- Facilitates discussions, information and data gathering with internal and external stakeholders to understand opportunities and challenges; conducts public information sessions; prepares and administers surveys and other required materials; collects and analyzes data
- Presents progress and findings to stakeholders including Climate Initiatives Lead, Department leads, Environmental Advisory Committee, community stakeholders, and Council
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Lake Simcoe Regional Conversation Authority, York Region Environmental Advisory Committee, other Agencies and municipalities, broader public sector organizations, Town’s departmental leads, etc.)
- Supports the development of the CCAP Implementation Plan and monitoring mechanism to ensure accountability and track progress towards goals and targets
- Works alongside the Climate Initiatives Lead and Program Manager on the development of the CCAP

**Environmental Sustainability Initiatives Management and Leadership**:

- Provides leadership and direction to cross-departmental corporate teams to achieve goals and objectives in the 2023-27 Corporate Strategic Plan related to the ‘Advancing Environmental Sustainability’ Pillar
