Position Overview:
**Key duties and responsibilities**:
- Provide technical support for Planning projects
- Prepare visual materials such as 3D modelling, concept plans and other graphic aids for policy planning and urban design projects.
- Maintain GIS databases and prepare mapping
- Support the maintenance, cataloguing, storage and reproduction of maps, graphics, statistics and related data bases.
- Research, compile and analyze statistics and draft reports
- Research and support the development of recommendations for urban design guidelines, standards and other documents.
- Participate in and prepare materials for internal and external public and stakeholder consultation including public meetings and workshops.
- Assist in planning and execution of initiatives such as tactical urbanism, educational events, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
**Qualifications and requirements**:
- Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Association of Planning Technicians is required.
- A sound understanding of and ability to communicate urban design and land use planning principles and practice.
- Excellent graphic and written communication skills including ability to prepare written reports and implementation strategies supplemented by drawings and sketches.
- Advanced skills in GIS mapping and analysis and in generating drawings and 3D models to communicate planning and urban design concepts using visual graphics software (Sketch Up, AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, ESRI GIS Products and MS Office).
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a demanding environment.
- Ability to work effectively in both team situations and with mínimal supervision.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Ability to conduct research, compile and analyse statistics, evaluate options and develop recommendations.
- Intermediate skills Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word and Excel)
- Excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders and the general public.
- GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Specialist certificate would be an asset.
- Experience with AMANDA database software would be an asset
**Hours of work**:
35 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm.
**Pay/Salary**:
Cupe 973 Grade 8: $33.19-$40.76 per hour
