This position provides counselling, education, and advocacy support to children 3 to 18 years of age who have witnessed or have been affected by domestic violence. Provides emotional and parenting support for parents regarding the impact of their children witnessing violence.
**ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Proven skills in group facilitation.
- Strong interpersonal abilities to engage effectively and compassionately with children, mothers, and professionals.
- Solid understanding of early childhood education principles and the developmental needs of children, particularly those affected by domestic violence.
- Capable of responding effectively to emergencies and providing emotional support to children and families impacted by domestic violence.
- Assesses the impact of witnessing abuse on the child, evaluates the child's readiness for group support, and identifies the needs of the abused parent.
- Develops and facilitates psycho-educational support groups for children.
- Conducts individual counseling sessions with the child and/or family members, utilizing techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, and psycho-education to provide emotional support.
- Skilled in planning, leading, and promoting participation in recreational and therapeutic activities for children and youth.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide parenting support and demonstrate effective parenting techniques.
- Knowledgeable about community services and resources available to families, with the ability to assist parents in accessing these services.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education, Training and Experience**:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related human/social service field and (2) years of recent related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
**Additional Requirements**:
- Clear Criminal Record Check is required.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Acceptable Driver’s Abstract.
- Valid and unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License with access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
- Position requires Union Membership.
**KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Expertise in leading and managing group activities, fostering collaboration, and encouraging participation among diverse participants.
- Strong ability to engage compassionately with children, mothers, and professionals, building trust and rapport in sensitive situations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of early childhood education principles and the specific developmental needs of children, particularly those exposed to domestic violence.
- Proficient in responding to emergencies, providing immediate emotional support, and implementing strategies to assist families affected by domestic violence.
- In-depth knowledge of community services and resources, with the capability to guide parents in accessing support for their families.
**Shift/Schedule/Hours**:28-35 hours per week; regular daytime hours 9:00 am - 4:30 pm with flexibility; Temporary until March 31, 2025
**Wage/Salary**:Starting at $37.18/hour
**Grid Level**:13P
Pay: From $37.18 per hour
Expected hours: 28 - 35 per week
Schedule:
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
