**ABOUT THE ROLE**
We are currently looking to hire a Scheduler with experience in hydro power generation to join our Hydro Operations Planning team. Reporting directly to the Manager, Hydro Operations Planning, as the Scheduler you are primarily responsible for ensuring proper water optimization to maximize generation from water resources establishing adequate links to constraints listed above. This position requires a level of comfort in performing detailed analytical and quantitative work, excellent communication skills, and then using these skills to produce practical results leading to specific strategies and ongoing major business decisions. It is essential to have experience with complex modeling and enjoys working in a high-pressure environment.
This role is based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary
**WHAT YOU WILL DO**
- Maintain a rolling annual operations water plan for AB hydro operations and also ensuring the Winter Operations guideline is followed for operations.
- Develop daily and hourly operating plans for AB hydro assets; and developing and submitting daily Hydro energy offers to the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO)
- Work closely with the Asset Optimization team to maximize the safe, efficient use of available water resources within the constraints of operational, environmental and dam safety rules, the Water Act and Alberta Market Regulations based exclusively on public information, as established in the Policy 106.
- Ensuring all environmental, operational and regulatory restrictions are up to date including compliance with the rules of the Alberta Electric System Market
- Provide daily operatin
our Head Office in Downtown Calgaryg guidelines to TransAlta's Hydro System Control Center (HSCC) Operators for execution of the energy and ancillary service production plan.
- Support operations across hydro with technical advice related to water resources including providing On-Call support services after hours and on weekends (weekly shift) to respond to emergent changes in equipment availability or hydrologic conditions.
- Plan and coordinate spillway operations within the defined operating constraints identified in the TransAlta Flood Action Plan.
- Ensure the water and production data is accurate and fed in the databases and ensuring the hydro tools used for scheduling are accurate, up to date and reliable, including providing input to enhancements to tools currently in use. Ensure the FAP is strictly followed during runoff period and emergency situations.
**WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU**
- Engineering degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Hydrology.
- Professional engineering status (or eligible and working towards) in Alberta
- Background knowledge and experience in water resources principles (Meteorology, Hydrology, and River Basin management)
- Strong energy market understanding
- Strong communications skills, both oral and written
- Good organizational skills
- Expertise in Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of linear programming
- Experience in an operationally-intensive business
- Previous field experience in water resources or hydro operations desirable
- Understanding of Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
