**As Supervisor, Accounting, YOU Will Be Responsible For**
- Supervises the day-to-day operations of the accounting department; answers questions, reviews decisions & monitors general workload & production levels.
- Supervises accounting staff; builds & develops a high functioning team; oversees training requirements, provides support in recruiting, work assignments, professional development, & performance management.
- Produces financial & statistical reports including financial statements, reinsurance accounting, investments, & regulatory filings.
- Optimizes accounting processes to create efficiencies & enhance customer service.
- Participates in the development, communication & implementation of accounting best practices, policies, & procedures to accounting staff formally documented in an accounting procedures manual.
- Responds to & settles major inquiries & complaints from other departments, staff, brokers, & policyholders.
- Liaises with external auditors & actuaries.
- Works with the technology department to ensure the technology & business needs of the accounting department are met.
- Participates in strategic planning for the Company.
- Acts as a role model who supports a positive organizational culture.

**What We Need From YOU**
- **Education**: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (complete or in progress) would be considered an asset.
- **Experience**: Five or more years accounting experience.
- **Financial acumen**: Extensive knowledge of accounting principles & auditing practices. Has an extensive understanding of investments & capital markets. Has functional & technical knowledge of reinsurance.
- **Insurance underwriting, marketing, & claims acumen**: General knowledge of insurance underwriting, claims and reinsurance an asset.
- **Analytical skills**: Ability to visualize, articulate, conceptualize, or solve problems by making decisions that are logical & reasonable given the available information.
- **Innovative**: Detail oriented with a commitment to innovation.
- **Project planning skills**: Project management & coordinating skills with the proven ability to handle multiple tasks & make decisions in a rapidly changing environment. Able to set priorities for self & overall department by creating a focus, eliminating roadblocks, & knowing what will help or hinder goal accomplishment. Manages project deadlines & assigns work based on employees’ abilities & competence.
- **Technology knowledge**: Strong understanding of operating systems functionality & data warehousing to develop sound reporting/accounting strategies, drive new initiatives & support processing efficiencies.
- **Human resources management skills**: Supervisory skills including interviewing and selecting employees, providing constructive feedback, motivating, conducting performance reviews, and training and development.
- **Developing others**: Practices a ‘hands-on’ approach when directing and empowering employees to be successful through training, developing, and coaching. Holds people accountable by ensuring they meet individual and organizational objectives in an appropriate manner. Monitors employee development plans and ensures alignment with department and company goals.
