**Duties**:
Teach and demonstrate all aspects of theory and practical skills for both arc and gas welding processes required for the Welding Programs, including testing to Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) standards and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards.

Ensure program standards are maintained, prepare and develop course material as appropriate, maintain and submit student evaluation and grading. Work in a team approach to deliver both classroom and practical objectives in shop operations while promoting safety standards as a priority.

**Required Qualifications**:
Welder Certificate with Red Seal endorsement. PWP7 and PWP10 tickets (or equivalent), with TIG, MIG, GTAW/FCAW, SMAW/GMAW and fabrication experience. Extensive welding experience (minimum 5 years) in an industrial setting. Must have diverse industry experience including code work such as shop fabrication, heavy construction, and maintenance /repair (ASME or CSW W59). Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent (if in progress, to be completed within two years). Demonstrated high level of communication (written and verbal) and excellent interpersonal skills. Familiarity with Vancouver Island University Programs, policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively as part of a team that includes administration, instructors and support staff.

Must be willing to successfully complete a practical assessment to be coordinated by Vancouver Island University to determine competence to CWB and ASME standards.

Valid Forklift certification or obtained within 90 days of hire.

Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Level A Welding Certification or equivalent. Welder Fabricator Certification. CWB Level 1 Inspector Certification. CWB Welding Supervisor Certification.

Previous successful teaching experience in post-secondary environment.

Familiarity with Vancouver Island University programs, policies and procedures and familiarity with the BC welding training system.
