School District Groundskeeper

Temporary - Part-Time Position

School District 10 (Arrow Lakes)

Under the supervision of the Manager of Operations and Transportation the groundskeeper is responsible for the maintenance, repairs, and improvement of school grounds and school district grounds, and the operation, maintenance and care of all related equipment.

Nature of Position

Performs general field and site maintenance including but not necessarily limited to: line marks for sports fields, cuts grass, prunes trees, plants and maintains district grounds, sweeps sidewalks, removes garbage, assists with recycling, cleans parking lots, and maintains manual and machine operated snow removal, etc.

Co-plans and implements a schedule for grounds upkeep.

Operates grounds equipment and district vehicles.

Performs minor maintenance and repairs on grounds equipment.

Maintains inventory records of grounds tools, equipment, and supplies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Act in accordance with school and district policies and procedures, district Health and Safety protocols and WorkSafeBC regulations.

Works with mínimal supervision.

Keeps a clean and well-maintained workplace.

Maintains a current First Aid qualification.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

Certification in a relevant field including landscape, horticulture, or turf management.

Completion of grade 12 or equivalent.

2 years’ experience in related work.

Ability to use power tools and grounds equipment safely and skillfully.

Valid BC Class 5 driver's license.

Physically capable of performing the job duties.

WHIMIS certification in the last three years.

This is a 36.5 hour per week temporary position commencing as soon as possible, through to July 31, 2024. Actual hours of work will be in consultation with the Manager of Operations and Transportation. The salary for this position is $29.04 (as of July 1, 2023) per the Collective Agreement between the Board of Education of School District 10 (Arrow Lakes) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 2450.
