BGC South Coast BC is seeking a Child Minder for our Parents Together Group (located in East Vancouver) that runs Wednesdays from 6:45 to 9:15 pm, from September 25 to December 11, 2024.
**Summary of Responsibilities**
The childminder supports an in-person parent group (one evening per week) by providing a safe and calm environment for young children or infants.
**JOB DUTIES**
- Interacts directly with and supervises children while their caregivers are attending on‐site
group meetings.
- Fosters a warm and caring environment, to support a child’s transition from late evening group to home (group takes place from 6:45 to 9:15).
- May provide care for infants including diaper changing, feeding, and soothing.
- Uses a variety of techniques to sooth, settle, distract, entertain, and build a safe relationship with young children.
- Deals with children’s behaviours through role modeling parenting skills including observing, demonstrating, questioning, and reinforcing when applicable.
- Carries out developmentally appropriate activities (facilitates, adapts, and modify’ s activities designed to meet the needs of children).
- Communicates with parents about the child’s experience (activities, behaviours, interactions) while parent was in group.
- Follows all safety protocols and procedures provided by BGC and the program.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information related to the children, their families/caregivers, and staff.
- Sets up and cleans (when applicable) the child-minding area, ensuring all supplies and equipment that were used are returned for proper storage and informs program staff of any damaged or missing items.
**REQUIREMENTS**
- Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
- Knowledge/understanding of child development, including separation anxiety.
- Experience working with and/or caring for infants, toddlers, and children.
- Personal maturity and sound judgment.
- Current First Aid/CPR certificate.
- Basic ECE Certificate or EC development courses preferred, or related education and experience with infants and young children.
This is a casual position, one day week (2.5 hours) for 11 weeks (possibility for ongoing casual hours following the 11-week program). Starting pay is $17.75 per hour. Position includes paid birthday off, access to an Employee Assistance Plan and up to 5 days paid sick leave per year following 90 days of employment.
