**ABOUT THE POSITION**

The Surface Driller is responsible for the safe operation of Sandvik rotary blast hole drills working on a rotational (3x3) basis in a remote camp setting. Reporting to Supervisor, Open Pit & Earthworks, the Surface Driller will work with site project development teams to ensure the accuracy of blast holes according to the blast design while assisting with regular site maintenance, inspections of equipment, and developmental/construction duties as required.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**

Reporting to the Supervisor, Open Pit & Earthworks, duties will include (but are not limited to):

- Drive and operate tracked or truck-mounted rotary drilling, air-track or other drilling machines to bore large blast holes to specified depths at staked positions in open-pit mines;
- Safely operate Sandvik Di550 & DX800 rotary blast hole drills to meet daily blasting plan and production targets within OEM specifications;
- Operate tracked or truck-mounted drill equipped with auger or other attachment to drill holes for building foundations or pilings;
- Measure location and stake out pattern of holes to be drilled, load blast holes with explosives and detonate explosives to dislodge ore or rock;
- Ensure that blast holes are drilled accurately according to the blast design;
- Assist blast crew when required and carry out any other tasks as directed by the supervisor;
- Conduct pre & post operational inspections on equipment, clean, lubricate and refill equipment
- Assist with other project developmental/construction duties as assigned by the Supervisor; and
- Participate in safety toolbox talks and follow all site policies & procedures to ensure compliance.

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Five (5) years’ experience operating drills in an Arctic drill/blast rock greenfield construction environment, i.e., quarries, roads, plant sites, tank & camp pads, containment ponds, frozen core dams & open pits. Two (2) years’ experience operating Di550 & DX800 equipment in a mining/blasting environment;
- High School diploma or equivalent required; and
- Heavy Equipment Operator certification and blasting ticket (or ability to get) preferred.

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**

For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $115,752.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $42.00 and overtime rate of $63.00) in a work year.
