**About us**:
At HWS, we use a gender based analysis (GBA+), trauma and violence informed framework to deliver prevention, education and crisis support services to women and their families who have been impacted by gender based violence (GBV) in rural Huron County. Our services include a
24-hour helpline and emergency shelter, risk assessment and safety planning, advocacy, system navigation, individual and group healing opportunities, and community development.

We are looking for 3 temporary Crisis Support Counsellors to join our Women & Family Services
Team for an 8 week contract this spring/summer.

**Summary**:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Programs, and working closely with the Women & Family
Services team and Outreach Services team, the Crisis Support Counsellor is accountable to create a safe and supportive environment for women and families impacted by GBV.

**This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Program. To be eligible, youth must**:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

**Duties and Responsibilities Include**:
1. Responsibility for assisting with tasks which support the day-to-day operations of the
Emergency Shelter, Second Stage Housing and/or Outreach Programs, including providing support services to residents of the shelter and members of the community.
2. Providing crisis and emotional support and counselling though the 24/7 crisis and support line.
3. Support and lead programming including House Meeting, recreation activities with children and youth, food and cooking programming, etc.
4. Strengthen your advocacy skills working with the HWS team and liaising with other community agencies to ensure clients are appropriately supported.

**Requirements for the Role**:

- Completion of, or working towards a completion of, post-secondary education in the

Humanities/Social Services filed (ex: Bachelors of Social Work, Child & Youth WorkerDiploma, Social Service Worker Diploma, etc.).
- Knowledge of GBV.
- Experience working with women and children who have experienced trauma would be an asset.
- Strong conflict resolution skills, including the ability to facilitate difficult conversations where required.
- Ability to act as an advocate.
- Outstanding communication and listening skills.
- Understanding of and ability to maintain the confidentiality of those we support.
- A full, clean drivers licence and drivers abstract would be an asset.
- Clear and current Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Current CPR (Level C) and First Aid Certificate.
- Fluency in other languages would be considered an asset.

**Location**
This position will be based from our administrative and Shelter location at 376 Huron Road,
Goderich, with some required travel to other locations in Goderich, Clinton and Exeter.

**Hours**
This position consists of 35 hours a week with a combination of day, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts. This is an 8 week long contract funded by Canada Summer Jobs Program.
Hourly wage of $18.50.
