**Purpose**:
The Lassonde School of Engineering's new Digital Technologies (DT) degree program is a uniquely flexible alternative to traditional university study where a learner will be employed full time at the same employer for four years, earning a salary while studying towards a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree. Approximately 20% of their work time will be dedicated to theoretical, in-class learning. The rest of their work hours will be spent in the workplace where academic learning will be continually applied and integrated as they gain experience and contribute to their employer's goals.

The first of its kind in Canada, the program will be offered exclusively through York University's Markham campus. In its first year, the program will be delivered through our state-of-the-art space in IBM Canada's Learning Center in Markham.

Students have a choice of three areas of specialization that will equip them to excel in high-demand careers, such as software developer, cyber security analyst, and data scientist. The program uses a blended approach to learning with five-day teaching blocks on campus every six-to-seven weeks, along with online study. Students will join us from a range of small to large multinational organizations, representing a variety of sectors such as Information & Communications Technology (ICT), banking, health and manufacturing.

The Professional Skills Coach will provide coaching and support to students in this innovative program to facilitate the development of knowledge, skills and behaviours critical for academic and professional success. The incumbent will develop and maintain a strong relationship with different stakeholders, including students, their employers and faculty members. This role will conduct regular one-on-one as well as group interactions in a variety of in-person as well as virtual settings, including coaching sessions, workshops and performance reviews. The Skills Coach will be responsible for ensuring students' learning needs are being met in the workplace. The primary goal is to provide students with coaching support to promote and track their engagement with the program. The Skills Coach, the student and the employer will work together to integrate academic study with the specific responsibilities of the student's work role. To this end, the Professional Skills Coach will demonstrate a sound understanding of the Digital Technologies program and will have background in a relevant field with demonstrated appreciation of the connection between the academic program objectives and workplace competencies.

About Markham Campus: Markham Campus will embed York University in the heart of one of the most diverse and dynamic urban communities in the province and country. Challenging the traditions of what a university campus can offer, Markham Campus will act as a unique meeting place for students to interact directly with employers, start-up companies, and community partners from across York Region. The Campus' academic programs and research will revolve around the core themes of technology and entrepreneurship and how they are driving innovation across all areas of knowledge and society. Opening in Fall 2024, York University's Markham Campus (MC) will offer students innovative, relevant job-ready academic programming and research opportunities.

**Education**:
Undergraduate degree in a communications, science and/or technology relevant discipline. Graduate degree with specialization in ICT, education/learning strategies, training or organization development preferred. This qualification requirement is in addition to the experience below.

**Experience**:
At least 5 years of recent related experience working in ICT sector and/or coaching, teaching, & assessing behavioral competencies relevant to academic and professional success. Experience working with vulnerable clients and work in a post-secondary environment is an asset. Experience coaching/mentoring employees as part of your previous roles. delivering workplace training along with carrying out work-based assessment and reviews.
Demonstrated evidence of supporting young as well as experienced professionals to develop reflective learning and engaged critical thinking skills, through practice-based learning.
Evidence of engaging in regular professional development is required.

Knowledge
Knowledge of work-based learning.
Knowledge of how the ICT sector works and key professional expectations to succeed in the sector. Knowledge of educational quality assurance processes and ability to comply with them.

**Skills**:Effective communication skills with strong interpersonal skills including discretion and the ability to establish and maintain trust. Ability to present and communicate complex information with clarity to a range of diverse audiences, and the ability to champion the student's interest in front of their employers.
