**Job Description**:
This position will carry out instrument operation and analysis as well as be responsible for both routine and non-routine instrument maintenance/ troubleshooting in the ICP Spectroscopy group with a focus on ICP-OES and ICP-MS instrumentation and analysis. The coordination and performance of various sample preparation techniques may also be required.
- Uses an applied approach in performing moderate technological functions within laboratory operations including method validation
- May troubleshoot and repair equipment or components under the guidance of Senior team members
- Works from, detailed specifications and verbal instructions.
- Interprets and evaluates results.
- Calibration and set up of equipment prior to analysis.
- Maintain and record equipment calibrations.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of LIMS
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of QMS & may be required to investigate corrective actions
- Carries out routine and non-routine equipment maintenance
- Strong technical knowledge of instrumentation and analytical techniques is an asset
- Maintains a clean working environment.
- May provide guidance and training to more junior laboratory personnel.
- Follows all company health, safety and environmental policies.
- Follows all Quality system protocols and reports any discrepancies to the Supervisor.
- May be asked to work in other areas of the Environmental services department when needed.
- May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.
**Qualifications**:
- A post-secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science) is required.
- 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory setting is required.
- A minimum of 1-3 years of ICP instrumental analysis experience is strongly encouraged
- Demonstrates a strong technical working knowledge of ICP-OES and/ ICP/MS instrumentation
- Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples & various equipment.
- Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
- Able to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus the quality of results.
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
- Ability to work well with others & independently.
- Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Works well under pressure.
- Extended hours and shiftwork may be required from time-to-time.
- Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
