**General Description**:
Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is centrally located in the urban Indigenous community of Halifax and is looking for **One (1) Essential & Life Skills Instructor (25-30 hrs/week) & Admin Asst. (pt 5-10 hrs/week)** **This position will be full-time (35 hours/week), with duties split between instruction and administrative duties.** The ELSI is responsible for the effective delivery of the Essential and Life Skills program. Ensuring the curriculum is aligned to E3 framework and culturally appropriate content and pedagogies teachings. The scope of the position is to teach adults using a variety of techniques to facilitate learning in essential and life skills. Adult Education instructor helps students improve their critical-thinking, problem solving and communication skills. **MNFC’s Adult Learning Programs**

MNFC’s Adult Learning Program (ALP) has implemented a blended learning model with both, online and in-person class time. The ALP and GED programs are integrated into the MNFC Adult Education Department’s programming and we maintain a separate stream for each of the programs.

The ALP program helps students earn their ALP levels one, two, and three, preparing them to complete level four and their secondary education. The ALP program is designed to meet the academic entry requirements of post-secondary educational institutions. Completing this program allows students to pursue numerous educational and employment opportunities.

The GED program helps students acquire their General Education Diploma by providing students with the lessons and skills they need in Math, Communications, Science and Social Studies.

The education programs align with the E3 program to better prepare learners for employment and training environments, and addresses the key competencies in:

- Find and use information
- Communicate ideas and information
- Understand and use numbers
- Use digital technology
- Manage learning
- Engage with others.

MNFC uses individualized learning plans, meeting specific student needs. Our approach to individual teaching is to match students’ learning styles, individual paces for learning new skills, and motivation has been met with very positive results, showing that students are progressing at a pace that is both challenging but comfortable for them. We respect our learners’ histories, life experiences, and social, cultural, and emotional needs, adjusting learning plans as needed.

**Key Responsibilities**:
We are looking for an individual to perform the following duties:
**Administrative Duties Intake and Assessments**
- Conduct Assessments to determine the best fit for the learner in the programs that MNFC offers.
- Conduct CAMERA and CARA assessments with incoming students (as needed) and provide results to the province
- Place students into the appropriate program based on their assessments, short
- and long-term goals, and learning styles.
- Instruct students on material needed to complete their learning plan(s).
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive documentation regarding all interactions with clients. Documentation must be in accordance with agency standards and adhere to funder requirements.
- Database entries of student engagements must be maintained in the MNFC database.

**Design, Write, Develop Programs/Courses**
- Support the development and writing of academic programs/courses that your program will use with other team members
- Identify, review, recommend, and develop appropriate curriculum/course/program supports and resources (Learning Plans for students)
- Provide input into program reports which impact ongoing development, delivery and evaluation
- Develop and deliver workshops to support implementation of new skillsets
- Support the development of student learner assessment and program evaluation guidelines and tools including recommending strategies for developing and implementing program standards and guidelines

**Deliver Essential and Life Skills workshops**
- Plan, develop and deliver classroom and workplace instruction as assigned, which will facilitate the learning of work-related skills. This may include essential skills development, employment preparation, job search and personal management skills.
- Work within an adult centered learning environment, establish rapport, encourage aspirations, and facilitate problem solving in a non-threatening environment.
