We are seeking a dedicated Deli/ Retail Associate to join our team. The Deli Associate will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, preparing deli items, cook prep for catering and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

We are an industrial bread producers and a full service catering company. Genuine Bakery has been a Hamilton staple for over 60 years. For generations, our family has perfected the art of baking, passing down time-honoured recipes and techniques that capture the essence of our Italian heritage. From fresh baked bread and specialty loafs, to hearty lasagna’s and our daily crafted hot table we strive to serve Hamilton and our community as if they were our own family.

**Duties**:
**Customer Service**:

- Greet customers in a friendly and welcoming manner.
- Assist customers in selecting deli meats, cheeses, salads, and other items.
- Provide recommendations and suggestions based on customer preferences.
- Answer questions about menu items, ingredients, and portion sizes.

**Food Preparation**:

- Prepare sandwiches, and hot lunches according to customer orders.
- Slice deli meats and cheeses to the desired thickness.
- Assemble hot table items such as roasted meats, side dishes, and entrees.

**Maintaining Cleanliness**:

- Keep the deli counter and hot table area clean and organized at all times.Regularly sanitize equipment, utensils, and surfaces to maintain hygiene standards.
- Dispose of food waste and empty trash receptacles as needed.

**Stocking and Inventory Management**:

- Monitor inventory levels of deli meats, cheeses, condiments, and other supplies.
- Restock shelves, refrigerated cases, and hot tables as needed.
- Notify management of low stock items and assist with placing orders.

**Cash Handling and Point of Sale (POS) Operations**:

- Ring up customer purchases accurately using the POS system.
- Accept cash, credit/debit cards, and other forms of payment.
- Count and reconcile cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.

**Team Collaboration**:

- Communicate effectively with coworkers and management to ensure smooth operations.
- Assist colleagues during busy periods and offer support as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments to maintain a cohesive team environment.

**Upselling and Promotions**:

- Recommend additional items such as beverages, sides, or desserts to enhance the customer experience.
- Promote seasonal specials, discounts, and loyalty programs to increase sales.
- Encourage customers to try new products or menu items through persuasive communication.

**Resolving Customer Issues**:

- Address customer complaints or concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
- Take proactive steps to resolve issues and ensure customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

- Previous experience in a deli, kitchen, or restaurant setting is preferred
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques and safe food handling practices. Note, if desired, genuine bakery will pay for your food handlers certificate
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to engage with customers in a friendly manner
- Proficient in cash handling and basic math skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Willingness to learn and adapt to changing priorities in the deli department

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: $16.55-$17.50 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 24 per week
