The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices the culturally responsive pedagogy approach in providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe and healthy education that supports learning and success both personally and academically to the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties, an area of 5,250 square kilometres and a total of 23 schools.

**Position**: 70% Vice Principal and 30% Alternate English / TBD - 100% Permanent

**Reports to**: Administrator

**Specific job requirements are**:

- NSVS online registration and management
- Strong knowledge in student information system
- Strong organization and managements skills
- Program planning process and management
- Elementary administration experience
- Knowledge of elementary teaching methods
- Knowledge of self regulation methods and teaching including MTSS, trauma informed, and positive behaviour supports.

**Qualifications**
- Master’s degree (preferably in Administration, Leadership)
- Completion of Instructional Leadership Academy of Nova Scotia Diploma Program or equivalent

**Experience**
- Administrative Experience (preferably at similar grade levels)
- Teaching Experience (preferably at similar grade levels)

**Abilities**

The principal of a public school is the educational leader of the school and has overall responsibility for the school, including teachers and other staff. It is the duty of a principal to
- ensure that the public school program and curricula are implemented;
- keep attendance records respecting every student enrolled at the school and report thereon to the school board, as required by the school board;
- take all reasonable steps to secure full and regular attendance at school of the students enrolled in the school in accordance with policies established by the school board;
- communicate regularly with the parents of the students;
- ensure that reasonable steps are taken to create and maintain a safe, orderly, positive and effective learning environment;
- ensure that provincial and school board policies are followed;
- identify the staffing needs of the school;
- assist the school board with the selection of staff for the school;
- evaluate the performance of teachers and other staff of the school;
- assist the school board in the development and implementation of professional development programs;
- encourage teachers and other staff of the school, students and parents to participate in school decision-making through representation on school advisory councils and committees;
- participate in the establishment and operation of a school council;
- assist the school advisory council in the development of school improvement plans and, upon approval by the school board, co-ordinate their implementation;
- assist the school advisory council in the preparation of its annual report;
- account to the school board for money received from the school board or any other source;
- account to the school board, through the superintendent, for the performance of the school;
- co-operate with the staff of other departments and agencies of the Government to better meet the needs of the students in the school; and
- perform such other duties as are prescribed by Education Act or the regulations or assigned by the Regional Education Director.
