**POSITION**:Accounting Officer I

This position is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing and implementation of all financial administrative practices and procedures for the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN).

**Typical Duties and Responsibilities**:

- **Provide the Financial Coordination and Assistance with all Accounts Payable (Business files) for the FSIN**_
- Coding of all invoices for business vendors.
- Coding of all invoices for major accounts, travel claims, meeting lists.
- Entering invoices into ACCPAC accounting software.
- Preparation of cheques for signing.
- Maintains paid expenses and business files.
- Files the invoices and cheque stubs.
- Preparation of the mail out and distribution of cheques.
- Conducts monthly reconciliation on Accounts Payable Module.
- Create new vendors in ACCPAC.
- Cancels cheques in ACCPAC.
- Reconciles salary and travel advances on a monthly basis to the General Ledger.
- Maintains the log for the purchase orders.
- Matches Purchase order to invoice.
- Prepares urgent cheques when requested.
- Prepares journal entries related to accounts payable.
- Audit confirmations.
- Prepare and process accounts payable & contract cheques.
- Redirect incoming mail.
- Record & sort incoming paperwork & do follow-up.
- Issue Flow-thru payments.
- Provide G/L accounts when requested by departments.
- Process stop payments, Executive Withdrawals/Notifications to Bank
- Record and sort all incoming paperwork & follow up.
- **Assisting in Special Projects**_
- Assists with the year-end.
- Maintains file for pre-paid expenses.
- Prepare special reports as requested.
- To assist with high volume workload increases.
- **Back up functions for Accounts Receivable**:_
- Maintains files for all funding agreements and/or contracts.
- Maintains a log of all payments related to the agreement/contracts.
- Issues invoices for accounts receivable (FSIN, NIFC).
- Issues the flow though payments for the funding agreements.
- Deposits account receivables in the FSIN bank account.
- Preparation of summary of deposit for each transaction.
- Assists with the monthly bank reconciliations.
- Journalizes rent allocations to each department.
- Enter monthly funding revenue.
- Preparation of contracts.
- Prepares and enters monthly journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
- Prints Batches.
- Opens new department codes with accounts.
- Assists with the Year-end process.
- Performs system related projects and problem solving.
- Assists with Year-end process.

**Other**
- Assist in other areas of Finance when needed.
- Other related duties may be assigned from time to time.

**Qualifications**:

- **Education**_
- Two (2) year certificate in business administration.
- **Experience**_
- One (1) year experience in an accounting environment.
- Ability to work with ACCPAC.
- Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet.
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations customs, culture and history.

A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Salary is based on an established grid and commensurate with qualifications and experience._
