Ottawa, Canada Let's Talk Science at uOttawa and CarletonU Full time

**Position Profile**

In this position, you will contribute directly to ensuring that children/youth and volunteers have a great experience with our program. Ensuring that the children/youth have a great experience increases the chance that they will enjoy science and even consider science careers. You will be one of the key people whom our volunteers interact with on a day-to-day basis, and you will have a direct impact on how well supported and valued they feel. This position is also a chance to gain management skills by helping to oversee the work of summer students. It is an ideal position for someone who will enjoy the autonomy to self-organize their days spending a lot of time focused organizing materials independently, mixed in with several interactions each day with various volunteers as they drop by the kit space (a space on the University of Ottawa campus that the person in this position works out of) and occasionally pitching in with high energy youth events. Most days, you will self-manage to progress through your to-do list as well as jump in to help with the various needs of volunteers and events. It is ideal for someone who is able to be structured in their work but doesn’t mind reprioritizing their tasks and problem-solving in the moment in order to support this very dynamic volunteer-driven program.

**Tasks**

The Materials and Training Coordinator will work to ensure the kit space is well stocked and organized and to ensure volunteers have workshop kits with all materials needed including guides on how to run the workshop. They will train volunteers in doing the workshops. They will develop simple activities for our rural library kit drop off, pack the kits and send them via Purolator. They will assist with events as required, with workshop delivery on occasion, and assist in overseeing our summer students.

The position is on site at the University of Ottawa and overseen by the Director of Let’s Talk Science at uOttawa and CarletonU. It is for 35 hours a week at $20 per hour, starting as soon as possible. This position cannot be done remotely.

- Coordinate Purolator pick up of the kits for our rural drop off program.
- Assist in packing kits for northern Indigenous summer camps and other northern trips.
- Contribute to the planning, including timelines and deliverables for this position.
- Assist in overseeing 2-4 summer students.
