**Role**:
We are seeking a VP of Research and Development to join the MetOcean team at our office in Dartmouth, NS.
As an integral member of the team, the VP of Research and Development will work closely with Engineering, Product Management, and Software.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Develop and execute the research and development strategy in alignment with the company's goals and objectives.
- Lead a team of engineers, product managers, and developers to drive innovation and product development.
- Your role involves overseeing the creation and enhancement of our company's products or services.
- Identify new technologies, trends, and opportunities to enhance the company's competitive advantage.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, marketing, and sales, to translate research findings into actionable strategies.
- Manage the R&D budget effectively, allocating resources to high-priority projects and initiatives.
- Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning within the R&D team.
- Oversee the intellectual property strategy, including patent filings and licensing agreements.
- Stay current with industry developments and emerging technologies relevant to the company's business.

**Education**:

- Advanced degree (MBA preferred) in a relevant field in engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5 - 10 years related experience as a Vice-President or equivalent.

**Preferred Qualifications and Experiences**:

- Strategic Planning: You lead the development of product strategies aligned with the company's overall goals and market needs. This involves conducting market research, identifying opportunities, and defining product roadmaps.
- Team Leadership: You manage and mentor a team of product managers, designers, engineers, and other professionals involved in product development. This includes setting goals, providing guidance, and ensuring collaboration across teams.
- Product Innovation: You drive innovation by fostering a culture of creativity and experimentation within your team. This involves staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and customer feedback to continuously improve and evolve products.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: You work closely with other departments such as marketing, sales, and customer support to ensure alignment and effective communication throughout the product development lifecycle. Collaboration with these teams helps in gathering insights, validating ideas, and delivering a cohesive customer experience.
- Resource Management: You manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively to deliver products on schedule and within budget. This includes prioritizing projects, allocating resources appropriately, and mitigating risks throughout the development process.
- Quality Assurance: You ensure that products meet high-quality standards by implementing robust testing processes and quality assurance measures. This involves conducting thorough testing, gathering feedback, and iterating on products to address any issues or shortcomings.
- Performance Monitoring: You track and analyze key performance metrics to assess the success of products and initiatives. This data-driven approach helps in making informed decisions, optimizing product features, and maximizing business impact.

**Technical and Non-Technical Skills**:

- Has the aptitude to understand the full breadth of the company’s products and services.
- Is extremely self-sufficient and can deliver necessary work with mínimal supervision.
- Has a strong sense of customer service and people management.
- Demonstrates excellent skills in working as part of a team, including trust and collaboration.
