_Schooner Transport_ operates a fleet of asphalt & petroleum tankers serving customers throughout Ontario & Québec.

We are looking for the _right_ person who wants to make "dispatching & logistics management" a career, someone who is highly organized and detail-oriented, who can proactively solve unexpected problems when they arise, thrives in a “team” environment and possesses excellent communication skills.

Working as one member on a dispatching team, your primary responsibility during the “asphalt season” (typically May through early November) will be ensuring the efficient movement & on-time delivery of liquid asphalt products from production facilities to various destinations.

Typically our asphalt drivers load late at night / very early in the morning, and make deliveries anywhere between 5 am & 9 am. If there is a snafu such as a driver reporting sick, a loading issue at terminal, etc., you would be the person receiving the call and solving the problem.

Load assignments are often organized 12 to 24 hours (or more) in advance of a delivery, being mindful of individual driver’s weekly schedule & available “hours of service”. Coordinating as necessary with the maintenance team to ensure that tractors & tankers are ready & available, is important as well.

During asphalt’s “off-season”, or during relatively slow periods, or when filling in while a colleague is away / on vacation, etc., you will be working with the rest of the dispatch team assisting with the dispatching of fuel & ethanol deliveries (very few asphalt loads are dispatched November through April).

**Specific responsibilities include**:

- Coordinate transportation logistics for the delivery of liquid asphalt products to customers, including scheduling, routing, and tracking shipments
- Collaborate with supply and client companies, drivers, and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of products
- Proactively & creatively solve problems as they arise
- Proactively manage a positive working relationship with our drivers & maintenance personnel
- Perform data entry and verify that loads / trips assigned to drivers are accurately recorded in the company's dispatch system (including _Dispatch Mate_)
- Review and approve ‘wait-times’ (drivers waiting longer than standard to load at a terminal)
- Effectively leads the drivers by setting an example in behavior, values & duties
- Enforce all company rules, policies & procedures related to employee and client conduct
- Visibly demonstrate a commitment to ‘safety’ by stringently following all safety & health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such
- Assist team members by providing additional support or coverage as needed (i.e. “work as a team”)
- Compile reports for review by management as requested
- Perform various administrative tasks related to logistics, dispatching, fleet maintenance, as may be required

**Reporting Structure**: Reporting to the Transportation Logistics Supervisor

**Work Location**: 2680 Overton Drive, Ottawa, Ontario

**Equipment**:A fully-equipped office work station and cell phone are provided
- Ideally, has dedicated experience (**minimum** 2 years) providing dispatching / logístical support in the petroleum transportation industry (highway tractor-trailers).
- Acknowledges the need to _always_ arrives to work on-time, knows they are both responsible & accountable in providing instructions to drivers, someone who is proficient in changing plans as circumstances warrant, and is therefore results driven
- Is a team player who is willing to step-up and assist colleagues when needed
- ** Being **bilingual** (English & French + other languages) will be considered an important asset**
- Has strong organizational & planning skills, including a demonstrated attention to detail
- Is able to manage large amounts of information to proactively solve problems with mínimal supervision
- Is an excellent communicator with a keen sense of timeliness
- Is knowledgeable of the Highway Traffic Act as it applies to highway tractor-trailers a definite asset.
- Has experience using _Dispatch Mate_ (platform for load information) will be considered a definite asset
- Is proficient / competent using typical office & computer-based systems (Microsoft Office Suite)

**Other**:

- Owning or having use of a personal vehicle is recommended (given relatively poor public transportation to our facility). Free parking is available on-site.

**Must already be able to work in Canada and currently living in the greater Ottawa / Gatineau region**
