**Job Description**:
AECOM’s Ontario Ecology team is filling summer 2023 contract positions for the positions of terrestrial ecologist and aquatic ecologist to support our existing projects activities in and around the Ottawa area.

Individuals should have a background conducting biological inventories, including aquatic and/or terrestrial habitat assessments and species inventories, and associated data analysis and reporting.

Organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast paced environment are essential qualities.

The position will involve working with technical leads who provide support on environmental investigations including baseline studies, environmental impact assessments, Species at Risk permitting and mitigation plans and related scopes of work.

Key roles for the position include:

- Conduct data collection and field investigations to document baseline conditions according to study requirements in urban and remote sites in southern and central Ontario
- Please indicate whether you have experience conducting the following field surveys: breeding bird surveys, amphibian call surveys, ecological land classification (ELC), plant surveys, wetland evaluation surveys (OWES), insect surveys, fish community surveys, fish habitat surveys, freshwater mussel surveys
- Work as part of small and large field crews
- Data entry and report writing
- Adhere to AECOM’s Health and Safety Protocols

**Qualifications**:
**Minimum Requirements**
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental science or biology, from a recognized University or College
- Training and experience identifying freshwater fishes of Ontario -AND/OR- training and experience identifying flora and fauna of Ontario (e.g. plants, birds, amphibians, mammals, insects, etc.)
- Experience with air photo interpretation (hard/soft copy), Global Positioning Systems, and map and compass orientation
- Experience writing and preparing technical reports
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently
- Ability to work in both field and office environments
- Willing to work in the field for extended periods of time
- Valid First Aid + CPR
- Valid Ontario Drivers License (G Class)
- **Preferred Qualifications**
- Demonstrated experience conducting biological field work in Ontario
- Valid Class II Electrofishing Training; Royal Ontario Museum Fish Identification Training
- Ontario Benthic Biomonitoring Network Training
- Ecological Land Classification, Ontario Wetland Evaluation System training
- Knowledge and experience with federal and provincial acts, regulations, policies and guidelines in particular, Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Species at Risk Act, Conservation Authorities Act
- Pleasure Craft Operator Certification
