**POSITION**:Aquaculture Technician (Tech 2)

**REPORTS TO**:Hatchery Manager
**LOCATION**:Salt Spring Island, BC
**HOURS**:40 hours per week

**POSITION DETAILS**:
The Hatchery Technician will be responsible for all hatchery operations including live feed culture, incubation, larval rearing, nursery operations, broodstock care, spawning, and Algae/ Rotifer and Artemia production. Experience in a marine hatchery is preferred but must have experience working with water quality, data monitoring and problem solving. Technicians will be working with both recirculation and flow through technologies. Other duties may be assigned as required.

**REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Computer literate (ability to learn basic alarm system and input data)
- Ability to work alone and pick up tasks quickly
- Ability to work in a small team setting
- Open and effective communicator
- Physically fit (able to lift 20lbs, work without long breaks for physical labour)
- Able to follow protocols and listen to direction
- Basic plumbing and animal husbandry skills
- Valid Drivers License
- 1-2 years of aquaculture experience
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related topic

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**:

- Shifts will be variable, sometimes on the weekend and will require a minimum of one on call shift/week
- Occasional overtime shifts are required
- Camp shift optional [4 on 3 off] or, [8 on 6 off]
