We have an exciting opportunity for a **Director, Ocean freight Development - Americas**, responsible for the Transpacific Eastbound trade development. This position will be based at our Vancouver, BC - Canada location.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Execution of trade strategy in the areas of product and business development to achieve budgeted trade volumes & GP (in line with separate “accelerated growth” business plan)
- Visit customers along with M&S and/or OCC teams.
- Participate in business review meetings with all partner carriers (as required / requested)
- Support the development of customers with activities in both countries i.e. Canada & USA.
- Responsible for providing pricing direction to tenders and RFQs to clinch contracts from country (Canada & USA), regional and global customers.
- Support negotiations to maintain competitive ocean rates (FAK), terms & conditions, ensuring timely and accurate uploading into the Cargosphere rate management system thru appropriate channels.
- Support countries’ required customer-specific, named account (‘NAC’), rates, terms & conditions with carriers, ensuring timely and accurate uploading into the Cargosphere rate management system thru appropriate channels.
- Understand countries’ needs and support to negotiate specific requirements with core carriers including space protection / allocation / service conditions.
- Establish regular market information per trade to countries.
- Support the USA and Canada on rates and carrier-related issues, as required / escalated.
- Communicate with overseas offices on day-to-day issues, as required / escalated.
- Being interface between ROCC, CT OCC’s and Trade Head, Transpacific for development and/or carrier related matters
- Monitor weekly trade volumes & customer performance reports to identify issues impacting volume &/or profitability requiring corrective action or escalation.
- Ensure efficient flow of information concerning carriers’ activities and market development to management.
- Prepare and provide competitive port to port rates to Americas HOP for global tenders.
- Provide updated information on carriers’ and trade / market situation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with ocean carriers’ key decision makers in the USA & Canada, possibly Asia (as defined separately)
- Discuss and initiate actions to solve problems e.g. space or equipment constraint.
- Partnership approach to carriers linked to performance management (score cards) in a spirit of supplier/customer relationship
- Participate as a member of the Americas Trade Management Team, to provide input for strategic carrier decisions.
- Contribute to and co-ordinate information & activities to support the Bid Team’s efforts in securing prospective accounts and managing opportunities (lead generation and/or sharing of market intelligence leading to new prospects)

**Skills / Requirements**:

- Good knowledge of ocean freight products
- Good negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
- Strong procurement skills
- Analyze problems effectively and find best solutions.
- Possess established carrier relationships and in-depth knowledge of carrier’s functions.
- Acquired knowledge in general shipping matters (e.g. documentation, claims, clearance, etc)
- Possess basic Logistics/Supply Chain Management knowledge.
- Possess supervisory experience and skills.
- Well versed in software knowledge (. word, excel, power point, etc.)
