Main Position Objectives

Reporting to the Mill Manager, the main objectives of the Mill Maintenance and Operations Superintendent are to provide effective management of all Mill maintenance and operations, while ensuring the safety of our employees, contractors and visitors, with the objective of “Zero Harm”; provide leadership, guidance and development to departmental personnel; implement continuous improvement and plant trials in Mill operations, maintenance and major maintenance, including yard operations, pond operations and the Waste Water Treatment Plant; and to achieve or exceed pertinent KPI criteria.

The incumbent will have a thorough understanding of maintenance and operations in food processing operations, with familiarity in sugar beet processing facilities, or similar.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental regulations and requirements with the objective of zero harm;
- Oversees the improvement of the site’s equipment, systems and infrastructure;
- Ensures the finished products (sugar, beet pulp, molasses) meet or exceed established food safety and quality requirements;
- Provides leadership for the implementation and optimization of maintenance best practices, inventory parts, standard inspection programs, and predictive/preventative maintenance programs;
- Follows up on day to day achievement of operational KPIs and any related corrective action;
- Ensures full utilization of Computerized Maintenance Management System;
- Ensures timely completion of safety corrective actions and incident investigations, including related follow ups for department;
- Works with the management team to improve plant operations and maintenance regarding safety, quality, cost, efficiency and resource conservation;
- Continuous reduction of overall plant downtime using available resources;
- Ensuring the scheduling and supervision of overhauls and rebuilding to ensure that the Mill is fully operational and safe to operate within schedule requirements;
- Prepares and communicates production schedules in a timely manner;
- Training and succession planning for department;
- Provides leadership to promote and support Lantic’s Mission and Values;
- Fill in for Mill Manager in his/her absence;
- Provide coverage for Supervisors in case of emergency;
- Foster a continuous improvement and change management mindset.

Academic Requirements

Post-secondary education in Engineering, Food Sciences, or other relevant field with relevant management experience will be preferred. Red Seal trade verification with relevant management experience will be considered.

Knowledge & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership/management role, overseeing maintenance/operations functions or projects is preferred
- Strong, proven people management skills;
- Strong, proven decision making skills;
- Knowledge and familiarity with automated process technology is a definite asset;
- In-depth knowledge of food processing, with a preference in sugar beets, and how it relates to packaging;
- Experience with maintenance management systems and procedures;
- Understanding of food safety programs and their role;
- Good understanding of environmental regulations;
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Offi
