**The Position**:
Job Title: Early Childhood Educator

**Position Overview**:
The Early Childhood Educators provide childcare that supports the healthy development of children through a responsive environment. This role also supports young parents to increase their confidence and capacity while highlighting the importance of opportunities to improve infant mental health. This role contributes to building a supportive and vibrant community for the young parents and their children at Louise Dean Centre. This position reports to the Supervisor, Parent Child Learning Centre.

Key Accountabilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Plan and provide materials and experiences to create flexible responsive programing that facilitate healthy development, attachment and regulation (in collaboration with the Supervisor);
- Complete questionnaires and surveys with parents to inform service delivery;
- In consultation with supervisor and collaboration with parent’s Parent Support Worker(PSW), meet with parents at home or in the community to provide support;
- Provide information, skills and support on parenting practices, child development and infant mental health;
- Participate in individual and group supervision, team/agency/division meetings, live observations and professional development opportunities;
- Be aware of the needs, capabilities and progress of each child through regular observation, developmental screening tools, evaluation and written documentation;
- Administrative tasks such as data collection, database input and observation documentation;
- Assist with general housekeeping tasks;
- Consultation with supervisor, colleagues, natural supports and other professionals;
- Maintain standards for the Province of Alberta Childcare Licensing Act and City of Calgary Health and Safety;
- Positively represent Kindred and the EPIMH division with sector partners, donors, volunteers and other stakeholders;
- Work collaboratively with our Calgary Board of Education and Alberta Health Services partners as well as other program staff;
- Participate in committees and events that support the agency and the division;
- With support of supervisor, coordinate use of holiday time to best suit the needs of the program;
- Support EPIMH division’s needs as they arise.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Minimum Certification as a Level 3 Early Childhood Educator;
- Membership with Association of Early Childhood Educators of Alberta encouraged;
- Current First Aid Certification;
- 3-5 years’ experience in centre-based early learning and child care programs with infants/toddlers;
- Takes a posture of Cultural humility in working with diverse populations; experience with Indigenous and/or Immigrant families is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Core competencies and frameworks to support infant mental health and healthy early childhood development.
- Familiarity with using computerized tools (e.g., zoom, MS teams, databases, Outlook) for communication and case management is expected;
- Knowledge of child development and positive parenting practices;
- Experience and training in Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework;
- Knowledge of adolescent development, domestic violence, substance abuse and mental health;
- Knowledge of Trauma-informed practice, Systems theory and working through a family lens.
