**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- **REQUIRED**:Chef training or culinary management diploma from a program that meets the standard established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
- **REQUIRED**: Successful completion of a food handler’s course offered by the local public health department.
- **REQUIRED**: Full COVID Vaccination ( 2 Doses plus Booster)
- **REQUIRED**:Current Vulnerable Police Sector Check, not less than 6 months old
***: Primary purpose of the job position is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal and provincial standards, guidelines and regulations, with the Home’s established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Dietary Department Manager to assure quality food service is provided at all times.
**POSITION REQUIREMENTS **_**but not limited to**_**:
- Providing Resident-Focused Care and Service. Respecting Resident’s confidentiality and treating staff, residents and visitors with dignity and respect at all times.
- Complying with all provincial long-term care regulations and established dietary department policies and procedures
- Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus. Review menus prior to preparation of food.
- Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of Cook.
- Work with Food Services Manager as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
- Ensure that safety and sanitary regulations and precautions are followed at all times by all personnel.
- Assist/direct daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available. Assist in inventorying and storing in-coming food and supplies as necessary.
**PERSONAL COMPETANCIES & QUALIFICATIONS**
- Must be knowledgeable about Canada’s Food Guide, therapeutic diets and HACCP
- Must be available to accept a variety of work hours through the calendar week
- Must be able to cook a variety of foods in large quantities.
- Must possess leadership ability, team work and critical thinking skills. Possesses a high degree of personal accountability, responsibility and strong decision-making abilities.
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of dietary service areas;
- Previous experience working in long-term care or with the geriatric population preferred.
- Must possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills and be able to follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
**WORKPLACE CONDITIONS**:
- Must be physically capable of safely lifting and transferring hot heavy objects and standing for the majority of work hours
- Will be standing/ working close to alternating high heat and cold temperatures.
- May at times work in close proximity to individuals presenting with or at risk for responsive behaviours that may be associated with complex and challenging mental health, substance use and/or other neurological conditions.
