Job DescriptionProgram Leaders will facilitate the Guide to High School programs, which aims to support Grade 7 participants in their transition to high school. This is achieved through once a week in-person sessions where youth will learn about:

- Introduction to High School
- Physical Wellness
- Stress management
- Friendships
- Peer pressure
- Power and privilege
- Bullying
- Identity
- Setting boundaries

In addition to supporting the participants, Program Leaders, will support a small team 3-6 volunteers who will be mentors to the Grade 7 students. This is a great opportunity to support volunteers in developing leadership and facilitation skills while creating opportunities for connection and support within communities.

**What you’ll be doing**:

- Deliver and oversee the Guide to High School program:

- Become familiar with the program curriculum
- Lead program discussions, including those on more complex topics such as identity, power dynamics, oppression and bullying, etc.
- Lead a meaningful weekly territorial acknowledgment
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of program participants
- Intervene in incidents of distracting or concerning behaviour
- Oversee attendance and dismissal of participants each session
- Purchase program snacks each week (gift cards provided)
- Support a volunteer team of 2 adult facilitators and 2-3 high school students in delivering the program each week
- Communicate weekly amongst teams of volunteers to assist with delegating program responsibilities.
- Provide coaching and feedback to volunteers
- Ensure the program is delivered effectively
- Attend approximately 17 hours of hybrid (in-person and online) training sessions
- Other duties as required

**What you’ll need**:

- Must be at least 18 years old
- Minimum one year of demonstrated facilitation experience (includes volunteer experience)
- Current First Aid certificate
- University/college coursework or degree in social work, youth work, psychology, education, or related field an asset (but not required)
- Knowledge/experience with the YWCA’s Youth Education Programs an asset
- Experience working with youth and volunteers
- Experience in community program settings
- Self-driven, highly motivated, and organized
- Strong leadership, communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment
- A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
- The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.

- Programs will begin in October and run until December, programs take place from approximately 2:00-6:00pm
- Must be available two of the following days every week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
