- The Youth Substance Use Youth Worker is a member of a recovery-oriented program serving Fraser Health regions. The program aims to support young people (13-18) in enhancing skills to address issues in their life impacted by their substance use. The program involves several components (recreation/group counselling/support), employing a recovery orientation in assisting with community connection and skill enhancement.
- Under the direction of the DEWY Team Lead, the position provides substance use supportive counselling services to program participants. Their primary role is to support participants in engaging with program components, including recreation activities, one-to-one supportive counselling, and group counselling. The Youth Worker will organize and facilitate recreation activities, organize, and participate in assigned core program groups, and provide support to participants involved in alumni activities. The position works within the strategic objectives of the Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) to ensure the provision of effective and efficient services to the participants. The position is expected to provide services with a minimum of two evenings per week and one Saturday per month.

- Assist in the planning, development, and execution of various groups.
- Supportive and relational counselling.
- Administrative duties.
- Site maintenance duties.
- Maintain professional standards of conduct.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social work or other related field plus one year's experience, a bachelor’s degree in child and Youth Care or a relevant discipline plus one year's direct experience. Substance use/Addiction Counselling training. A combination of experience and education is considered.
- Experience providing youth alcohol and drug services within a biopsychosocial -spiritual framework.
- Knowledge of learning disabilities (including FASD, ADHD), barriers to support, addictions theory, motivational theory, the effects of abuse and trauma, and Aboriginal culture.
- Sound judgement and effective interpersonal skills.
- Clear communication skills, verbal and written.
- Trauma-informed practice and suicide intervention training.
- Additional Assets
- Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector.
- Proof of being fully Vaccinated for Covid 19
- Current Standard First Aid certificate and Mental Health First Aid
- Class 5 Driver's License, Use of own vehicle (Business Insurance) with reimbursement
- Ability to model to youth a commitment to a wellness-focused lifestyle.
- Ability to foster a positive atmosphere conducive to the development of confidence and self-esteem in youth.
