Position Summary
The Tool Maker is responsible for a broad range of machining equipment and technical expertise to produce precision aerospace components to exacting standards from a wide variety of material.
We are currently looking for an Aviation Machinist (Tool Maker) to join our growing team in Sidney, BC (YYJ) and Calgary, AB (YYC). The successful applicant for this role will receive training appropriate to their area.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Machine aircraft parts and/or tooling and other parts from routine and exotic materials utilizing both conventional and CNC equipment.
2. Able to program CNC equipment.
3. Comprehend the specifications of a product by reviewing drawings, samples, and instructions.
4. Capable of meeting all DOT, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada and customer quality requirements.
5. Measure and mark materials for turning, shaping or cutting.
6. Able to assist in training, directing, and supervising junior employees.
7. Able to estimate and plan projects on time and on budget.
8. Able to carry out in-process inspections.
9. Maintaining a clean work area, and alerting their supervisor of any safety concerns.
10. Adhere to health and safety guidelines and principles.
11. Producing quality aerospace parts in collaboration with the rest of the Machine Shop production cell.
12. Working effectively both alone and in a team environment.
13. Observe tools and machines to ensure that feeds are adjusted, the temperature is maintained, and issues are identified.
14. Any other duties assigned.
Experience
- Experience in Aerospace/Aviation is considered an asset.
- At least 5 (five) years working as a Machinist.
- Laser Tracker experience and Metrology experience is an asset.
- Toolmaker’s ticket is an asset.
Education
- Possess an Inter Provincial Machinist Trades Qualification or similar trade equivalency from another recognized national, state, or provincial body.
**Skills**:
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to perform extremely detailed work.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand complex drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
Special Conditions
- Must be able to meet all physical duties required for this role.
- Shift work will be required based on shift-bid, seniority and company requirements.
- Work to be performed in noisy and often warm production areas, including working with chemicals — all PPE is required at all times.
- Occasionally required to lift heavy objects up to 40 lbs.
