**Your Opportunity**

Nested within Stantec’s multiple disciplinary Human Environment line, our Indigenous Services team specializes in Indigenous engagement, relationship building, facilitation of traditional land and resource use studies, and integration of Indigenous knowledge into environmental impact assessments. We provide services to private sector resource developers, all levels of government, non-governmental groups, and Indigenous communities. Stantec’s approach to Indigenous engagement is focused on reconciliation by working collaboratively with our clients to create and foster respectful and meaningful relationships. Through this approach, our clients are positioned to incorporate the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: 94 Calls to Action. We practice respectful collection and interpretation of information in collaboration with Indigenous Nations, Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations.

As an Indigenous Engagement Summer Student you will be supporting our Human Environment team while working on a variety of exciting projects with a focus on Indigenous Engagement activities. Ideally, the position will be in our Sidney or Burnaby, British Columbia offices. We also have offices in Kelowna, Kamloops, Quesnel, and Victoria, and we are open to community-based work options.

**Your Key Responsibilities**
- Work alongside senior Human Environment team members and Assessment, Permitting and Compliance team members to support Indigenous engagement activities, Indigenous Knowledge integration, socio-economic workshops, and assessment writing
- Assisting clients with work that includes engagement with Indigenous groups or Indigenous participation programs
- Support the planning and execution of engagement activities such as open houses, workshops, focus groups, and development of strategic engagement materials such as letters, posters, handouts, surveys and feedback forms
- Support administrative functions within project teams including communications tracking, meeting minutes, data collection and data entry, reporting and documentation, some in accordance with environmental assessment standards.
- Completion of project tasks within allocated budgets and timelines
- Coordinating and attending meetings and/or engagement activities virtually, in-communities, and with varied audiences
- Liaising with project managers and other departments as well as internal and external clients to ensure the delivery of objectives

**Qualifications**

**Your Capabilities and Credentials**
- Working with or for Indigenous Nations is a considered an asset
- Experience in presenting to a variety of audiences is considered an asset
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultural, historical, and political context in Canada
- Must have a valid driver’s license as travel may be required in this position as project needs dictate
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications

**Education and Experience**
- Prior experience in a relevant discipline such as Indigenous studies, anthropology, sociology, geography, archaeology and/or environmental sciences.

OR
- Working towards a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in the field of Indigenous studies, anthropology, sociology, geography, archaeology and/or environmental sciences.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

- $18.94 - $25.99 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
