**GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY**

The Governance Research Specialist will help the Department of Governance to meet its goals as it relates specifically to Wahnapitae First Nation’s (WFN) journey of self-governance. This will involve assisting in a dual role of assisting with the administration as well as general project support for WFN’s self-governance efforts.

**NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION**

Reporting to the Governance Director, the Governance Research Specialist will provide direct project support for the work relating to self-governance initiatives within the Department of Governance. This involves conducting appropriate research and analysis, creating summary documents, developing initial communications materials, liaising with other First Nations, coordinating workflow between internal WFN departments, and other work as needed to ensure the success of the community’s broader work as it relates to self-governance. The Governance Research Specialist will also support the Governance Department by overseeing the administration of any and all committees, documentation, and follow-up relating to WFN’s self-governance project work - efforts that will entail ensuring agendas, minutes, and general organization for said committees, and any items that may result from said meetings.

**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Assist with the implementation of Governance programs and activities
- Conduct research, including outreach, to support departmental initiatives
- Compose summary research documents and other written materials as needed
- Remain current on legislation, events, etc. relative to the work of the department
- Coordinates governance-related workflow between departments as needed
- Develop, proofreads, and edits correspondence, reports, records, etc. as necessary
- Assist the Director of Communications and Governance as needed
- Manage the coordination of Governance committee meetings, which includes but is not limited to; Building and distribution of agendas, Taking and distributing minutes/meeting summaries, Following up on any administrative components relating to said meetings, Managing committee composition, including communication with committee members, Managing committee meeting calendar
- Coordinating engagement sessions relating to Governance, which includes but is not limited to; Event logistics, i.e. venue, catering, etc., Coordination of speakers, Scheduling and overseeing virtual component, i.e. Zoom Webinar

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**
- Diploma or degree in Business administration, Communication, or similar
- Minimum of two years experience in the conduction of research and analysis or in a related field
- Experience with administrative committee management
- Excellent research skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent computer skills, and strong experience with Microsoft Office tools (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)
- Strong familiarity with Zoom, with a focus on Zoom Webinar.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Creative, "out of the box", solutions-oriented thinker
- Ability to work in a team environment, both in person and virtually
- Valid driver's license and access to own vehicle

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- This position is at present one that is primarily remote and requires some on-site travel.
- Note that this is expected to become a primarily on-site position over time.

**LOCATION**: Wahnapitae First Nation

**REPORTS TO**: Director of Governance

**TERM**:Full-Time, Permanent

**STARTING SALRY**: $27.44 per hour
