**The opportunity**:
The Energy Advocate specializes in monitoring, analysing, optimizing and identifying ways and means (technical and procedural) to improve energy efficiency for the University of Manitoba facilities. The incumbent serves as a key advisor to the UM Facilities team on energy matters and works to uphold institutional priorities within the UM Energy Conservation Program and Climate Action Plan. The Energy Advocate leads the areas of performance metrics, standards and commissioning of new and existing facilities on campus. A high degree of collaboration with other facilities team members and external stakeholders is required. The Energy Advocate is responsible to initiate, analyse, develop, prioritize, design, justify, implement, monitor, negotiate, and resolve all issues.

**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:

- Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering (BSc. M.E) from a recognized University is required.
- Mechanical engineer (P.Eng.) required.
- Registered Mechanical Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of Manitoba (APEGM) is required.
- Member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE) is required.
- At least 10 years of energy engineering experience including a minimum of five years in the Energy Conservation field is required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must be technically competent in the following fields: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Condition (HVAC), Energy Conservation Direct Digital Control Systems (DDC) and Central Heating & Cooling Systems required.
- Must be in good physical condition to access all areas of building, tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, roofs, etc.
- Tact, initiative, and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, in English, are essential.
- Must have demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and within budget allocations.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communications required.
- Must have the ability to solve problems and ability to discern relative importance required.
